winter tires
Hello,
If I do not want to put 18'' winter tires on the rdx, what are the other options in 17 and 16''?
and yes I NEED wintertires here in the north. 2X4 or 4X4, without the right tire you loose grip.

I ordered DMZ3 Blizzak's in stock size on the stock 18's. Blizzaks' rock....had 4 sets so far on different vehicles. Incredible difference from all seasons.
I live central Ontario...snow belt area.
Buying some 19's with summer only rubber for summer use in the spring

I was thinking of doing the same thing. Did you transfer your TPM sensors over to the 17s? Or did you buy separate ones?

What cheap wheels did you get? Steel?
Also, I understand that Toyo Open Country G02+ are good tires. Can get stock 18" tire size right now for $ 1,088 installed on OEM wheels including all costs and taxes, plus there is a Toyo rebate of $ 80. Also, Toyos have a higher speed rating(H) than
Blizzaks DM-Z3(Q) and Michelins Latitude X-ice(Q), which according to the tire store is better if you do a fair amount of highway driving . Another one with higher rating(H) is Pirelli Scorpion Ice and Snow. I had read somewhere that the speed rating(i.e. Q or 160KM/hr) is if inflated for maximum load, which most of us don't do. So for less inflation, you have less speed capacity( less than 160 KM/hr for Q rating). Something else to consider is if you are driving mostly on clear roads and highway driving in the winter.I think the Toyos will last a bit longer.
For Canadian buyers go to 1010 tires website and there are also some ratings:
Blizzaks: 4.2 out of 5
Michelin:4.1
Pirelli: 4.1
Toyo: 4.6

As for the cheap rims, yea they were the tirerack suggested for cheap price but still look somewhat decent. They are "sport edition" not sure what sport edition but sport edition...lol hope this helps. go to www.tirerack.com put in your vehicle and see what they pop up with. all in all new rims, tires, tpms like 900 with shipping i think. tires alone arent much but def recommend the blizzaks!

Good for you for getting appropriate tires.
Regarding tirerack - check out this thread:
http://www.redflagdeals.com/forums/s...d.php?t=498864
There's some helpful posts detailing the shipping fees from Tire Rack to Canada, etc... it may help you decide whether or not it is a deal.
Also- from what I understand, if you don't get the TPMS sensors installed on your winter wheels, you are unable to take off the traction control - which is sometimes very necessary when trying to get going in deep snow.
good luck

I've just ordered winter tires and rims for both my 4Runner and my RDX. Both vehicles have the TPMS. Can anyone let me know if tire stores (Tirecraft, KAL Tire, etc.) can mount the tires and reset the TPMS or should I have the dealer install them?

I run 16" toyo open country G02+, good tire. Not all 16" fit. I have the ikon 13 that fit, not sure about steel rims. Last year the store have to try a few rims b4 one can fit.
I am in toronto, I pay for $1500 for rims, tire and install. That almost equal to 17" with steel rim.

Anyone in the Toronto area (GTA) know of a good place to buy wheels with TPMS? The guy my family usually goes to has the Blizzaks in stock but only a imited selection of 17" wheels and no TPM sensors.

Well, After having ordered the stock 18"s...I cancelled and ordered 235/60/17's WS-60 Blizzaks on 17" Sport Edition alloys with TPMS from Tirerack. I went with the WS60's for the higher speed rating and increased load rating over the DMZ3's.
Ordered online... www.tirerack.com
At 1.08 US, it cost me ALL IN (taxes, duties, shipping, brokerage etc) 1370 CDN to my door via UPS.

Update on the TPMS.
I had my Toyo winter tires mounted on my OEM rims and to my surprise there was no warning light/message relating to the TPMS. When I checked through the info. button it said it was OK and gave me the new readings for each tire.I did not drive it before I checked. So nothing to be done if you don't touch the TPMS on the wheels.

yea the tpms are mouted to the stock rims, so if you use those, no problems.
if you get NEW winter rims as many do to avoid salt/ice on their "good" rims then you will need the tpms.
I drove in the snow a little with the stocks and they handle like an all season tire, i drive a lot in snow/ice to work so i opted for the snow tires. Best part about snow tires isnt going, but stopping distances. That is when it counts

Well I had the same tires PIlot HXMXM4 on my Mazda 6...BRUTAL in the snow. I mean anything all season V rated will generally suck in the snow compared to a dedicated snow tire. I live in a crazy snow belt 1 hr north of Toronto....near Collingwood (Blue Mountain). I NEED snow tires up here.
My philosophy is this - I dont put a price on the safety of my wife and little girl. Whatever slight edge keeps them safe is all that matters to me - regardless of cost.

On the scale from 1 to 10.
Winter:
Light snow traction: 4.5
Deep snow traction: 3.5
Ice traction: 3.8
Looking through the comments, there were no RDX drivers. Comments were based on the TL, RSX, BMW, Lincoln LS, Mazda6 I, Benz-E550, Chrysler Pacifica, Civic SI, Accord, and the Dodge Stratus R/T.

Trust me...the stock Pilot HX's SUCK in the snow....once you have good snows, the difference is incredible.
I am a Canadian and have resigned myself to the fact that I need snows. Oh well.

I’ve got a 05 RL and am contemplating purchasing a 08 RDX for my wife in the spring. After reading the reviews of the Michelin HXMMX4’s on Tire Rack (only 3 of 10 would purchase these tires again, and rated 16 out of 17 surveyed tires) I made the dealer put a different set of tires on the RL before I purchased it, as a condition of sale. I had to go to 4 dealers before I found one who would give me what I wanted on my trade in, meet my purchase price, and exchange the tires. As bad as these tires are, it makes me wonder why Acura still puts them on their cars. I know that many Hondas come with them also, but Acura is supposed to be the “premium division of Honda”. I would think Acura would get a better tire. I wouldn’t have purchased the RL if it had the HXMXM4 tires, and I wouldn’t consider purchasing a RDX with them either.
The other thing about the tires that Acura chooses, at least in the RL and RDX is the non-standard size. There are very few choices in the standard tire sizes (245-50/R17 in the RL and 235-55/R18 for the RDX). I’m sure Honda / Acura has a great deal worked out with Michelin…

apparently it was posted earlier that michelin hxmmx4's have a tougher sidewall for increased vehicle weight and increased forces on turning, (that good ole sh-awd )
i personally havent tried these tires in the snow, i have blizzaks and that is all i use in the snow, when it comes time for new summer tires i'll go with something better than the michelin's. for regular rain and summer driving they do their job in my opinion.

Just came back from a trip across the mountains here in BC and the RDX with the Toyo winter tires handled very well in very wet, slushy ,snow and compact snow on the roads. The ride was also very good so I am very pleased with the RDX and its winter performance.
