Why I don't have an RDX yet.
And may not for a while.
Wife lost her job as a teacher a year ago, so I sold my Magnum RT and we still had a 2003 PT cruiser, but didn't need 2 cars since I was the only one working, plus I couldn't afford the RT loan payments anymore, so I sold it to Carmax (quick and easy)
She found a good job with the DEA as a contractor (good pay, but no benefits) 8 months ago, but the background check is taking forever, in the meantime she collects unemployment ($350/week)
I thought by now she would work already and I would have an RDX, but we're still waiting.
PT cruiser we have keeps breaking down every 2-3 weeks, always something (10 y/o, 98,000 miles), so we went to kia to check out the Forte hatchback and we ended up buying it during the Labor day sales they had, so we got a 2012 Kia forte 5dr, for $17,000 at 3.9%APR, not bad (EX, no tech package, but it has bluetooth and Sat radio and steering wheel controls, and gets 26/36mpg, 6 speed auto with manual mode, best transmission I've ever driven, smooth and quick)
I never thought I would buy a new car again, but we did, and this one has a 10y/100,000 miles powertrain warranty, so we're keeping it for the next 10 years.
I was set on getting a used 09 RDX with tech, and keep the PT for the wife, but we needed something good now and the labor day sales made it happen.
I still plan on getting an RDX once my wife starts working and is steady, and gets at least 32hrs/week, 'till then no RDX.
At least now I have the PT to go to CA if need be to trade it in when I'm ready to get an RDX, and the Kia will become my wife's car.
Just wanted to update my situation since I keep taking talking about getting an RDX but never do, now you know what's up.

I was laid-off in Phoenix from my IT job at a small business after Y2K. I think the business world was a little upset planes didn't fall from the sky and computers did not crash because of the Y2K bug. I was unemployed for almost 3 years before the tech world recover enough and had to move the whole family to Albuquerque for work.
The wife and I both had Honda Accords (97 4dr & 88 3dr hatchback) at the time and those two cars ran trouble free the whole time when I was on unemployment. Save us some serious money! Gave both car away to my niece and nephew and they are still on the road today.
The best thing about Honda/Acura is they make the best used cars. I had zero concerns purchasing a used 08 RDX with 30,000 miles because I believe the vehicle is that good. I now have 77,000 miles and another 100,000 miles to go. I feel the same about any vehicle in Acura’s line-up.
When you are ready to purchase, you might want to check out the MDX and ZDX along with the RDX. All 3 vehicles are beginning to sell used within $2000-5000 of each other depending on mileage/tech/year. All three have about the same gas mileage so you will not lose anything there.

why not get the 07 or an 08? don't worry about money, money comes and goes. just save and you will have your car. it might take a few months or it might take a few years. in the end you will have it, it's just a car. best of luck to your family.

I'm willing to consider an '08 (with low miles), but I'd rather have an '09, just to have something newer, and since I don't like the '10+ models, the '09 model year is the last one I like.
MDX is nice, but I don't want something big, and I don't need something more expensive used, ZDX looks nice, but the cargo practicality sucks and so does the back seat height, so the RDX fits in between perfectly, plus I only want a performance based crosssover. I checked out and considered the turbo Kia Sportage, but the interior is all black (looks like a hearse) and everything is plastic, nowhere near as nice and fancy looking as the RDX, plus I want the SHAWD.
Money is the issue here, and now that I have car payments to make on the Kia Forte, it will be a while until I can afford another car payment, unless the wife starts working full time soon, even then I might wait a few month and save $5K before getting me another loan buying the RDX.
