What tires give a softer ride?

It is time to replace my 18" Pilots, and I am looking for a tire that will provide a softer ride. Are there any non all season tires available as Arizona does not get much snow?

I know some of the tires are quieter than the others because of the thread disign but i think in regards to softer ride it will probably the same it's just depends on how much air you put on the tire. Manual requires 32 psi.

But the other question then would be, are there tires that give a quieter ride, i.e. they transmit less road noise? MY wife has a Mini Cooper and when we replaced the stock 'run flat' tires we noticed an amazing difference in both ride and quietness. I mean we still talk about the change on both counts and it's a year later--that's how dramatic it was. We put Toros on the Cooper that were recommended by Les Schwab and we're thrilled. It's like a different vehicle and we don't notice any loss in handling.

Just read some good reports on Google on the new Goodyear Assurance Comfort Treads, and the comments were both noise and ride improved with them.

If you deviate away from the all seasons to a performance tire you'll definately noice more road imperfections transmitted through to the cabin. Your best be would be to stick with a grand touring all season, and select a tire with a slightly higher sidewall. The extra rubber in sidewall will give you a bigger cushion to shield you from those road bumps and noises you're trying to block out.

The down side to this is, you will throw off you speedometer and odometer slightly, unless you have it re calibrated.

Tirerack has a great deal of information on all tires suitable for each vehicle.

The rough ride is mainly due to the stiff suspension. Going with a thicker sidewall will cause the speedo to be a little off, also handling will be compromised since there will be more flex in the sidewall.

I think my Bridgestone Duelers resulting in a slightly more compliant ride.

A more compliant sidewall can make a difference in feel regardless of tire pressure.
