What is MID "Range" telling me?
Anyone know how the driving range is calculated in the MID? Is it the number of miles till the fuel light comes on (and then I have an extra gallon or 2 in reserve), or is it telling me how many miles remaining before the tank is bone dry and I call Acura TLC for my free gallon of gas?

RANGE
This shows the estimated distance you can travel on the fuel remaining in the fuel tank. This distance is estimated from the fuel economy you received over the last several miles(U.S.) or kilometers (Canada), so it will vary with changes in speed, traffic, etc.
When the battery is disconnected, or you refuel, RANGE is also reset.

I have run my MID range to zero before and driven for another 5 miles at least. Even though the manual says that, I think there is another 20 miles or so in reserve...

sasair - how many gallons were you able to put back in when you ran it 5 past zero?
That's usually how I gauge my car's systems - see what the range is when you fill up and how many gallons you put in. They are always conservative, but the question is - by how much. The RDX has an 18 gallon tank including the reserve (according to specs on Acura's web site). If it says 10 miles left but you only put in 16 gallons then you get an idea of how conservative it was. Further experiments beyond that can give you an even better picture once you get comfortable with trusting it's underestimate and pushing the envelope.
(I've only had to fill up twice so far and one of those times was with 1/4 tank left so I haven't developed much of an idea of how conservative they are yet...)

I ran it down to 1 mile left on the range indicator this weekend and I filled 17.3 gallons....
I don't remember how much went in when I ran it past zero.

it's varied for me. there were times where the range was 0, and i had drove 35 miles beyond 0 range, and filled up with 16.5 gals. other times i cut it close, and filled up with 17.6 gals.
