What is done on the B1 service
I just made a service appointment with my dealer. I said I need a B1 service, and he mentioned some thing about changing the rear differential fluid. I am not sure that this is part of the B1 and think they may be trying to make a few extra $$ on me. Does any one know? Also if any one can share the price they have paid for the B1 service it would be great.
There's a lengthy discussion about the B1 service here:

or search for B1. Replacing the rear differential fluid is indicated by a B6, but it may depend on the car usage and/or what the dealer feels the car needs.

I just had the same code...I told them to ONLY change the oil, that I would take care of everything else....$60 for BS checks? come on, you can get that for free at Jiffy Lube (I don't go there). Plus, if any of those things being checked fails, it's under warranty!!! those checks should be free, they are paying for the repairs anyways....
Although I wasn't happy getting raped by the dealer, they did find a leaking shock and replaced it free under warranty. So the checks are good for something.
But if you look up under the car from time to time you will also be able to find these things. I had both rear shocks replaced, after I discovered they were leaking. The dealer is just trying to take your money.

Time to check my shocks.....
But let me ask, if you get an oil change at the dealer, there is no reason why they would not notice that, and inform you.....I say that paying to "check" the car is not fair, they should do that anyways.....

agree, when you are changing your own oil, you might as well take a flash light and look under the shocks and make sure everything looks dry. Visual inspections only catch things you can see, and besides, its also possible that it looks visually OK but few hundred miles down the road it starts to leak. its a car, anything can go wrong.....
