The wait is finally over
The wait is finally over
Hi all,
Initially I ordered a 2007 RDX Tech back in July 7. The sales guy told me I have to wait 2-3 weeks for the car to come. I waited and waited for about a month, the car finally arrived and I went to pick it up this past Saturday August 11. Guess what, I ended up with a 2008 model for couple hundreds more (which I don't mind). I have to say the wait and the extra hundreds were worth it. As many of you folks already knew the driver memory seat and auto dim mirror were added in the 2008 model. My car is black exterior with ebony interior. The only free accessory I got from the dealer was the wheel lock, what I really wanted to get from them was floor mat and mud flop. I guess I have to get those from my pocket. Here's my thought on the RDX (it will be long, so bring some soda and popcorn
)
First of all, I started my new car searching back in April. After months and months of research. I had narrowed down to Acura TSX / RDX, Lexus IS250 or BMW 335i. Each one of them has it's pros and cons. The TSX has great review on gas mileage and handling, best of all the price is not that expensive. But I never into its exterior design (I like the back but the front looks alittle weird to me). On the other hand, the IS250 looks great but the interior is sooo small and tight. As for the 335i which I like the most, after adding the desired options, the price tag went up to ~$50k. So, based on my preference and budget, I had decided to go for the RDX!!!
Why I like this car?
The exterior design has a big part of why I chose this car. It's very sporty looking (especially the back, I love the tail light), perfect size for me to drive around. The interior design is very nice and seatings are very comfortable. Also, of course the SH-AWD, Navigation system, Sound system...etc. (I am sure this is not new to all you folks anymore).
Performance of the car
I have to admit the pickup of the car is "not that strong" (I understand this is a 4-cyclinders car and weight nearly 4000 pounds so I am ok with that). BUT once it reaches certain RPM and the turbo kicks in...the power is right there and ready for you to use. Please don't get me wrong, I have no doubt on the power of this car. That's why I put quotes around those words. Please forgive me on that
Final note
Despite all the complaints about gas mileage, turbo lag, too expensive...etc. I still went for it, because of the beautiful interior / exterior design, all the standard options that Acura offers. if I could get ~20 mpg for this type of vehicle, I am happy with it. As for turbo lag, not too noticeable to me and I am sure I will get used to it. Too expensive?? I think is "reasonable". Try to build a car (BMW or Lexus) with all the options that RDX offers I am sure the price tag is not that much of a difference. Please note that I only mentioned high end brands there. If someone pin points RAV4 is better and cheaper, then I have nothing to say. In my opinion you can't compare RDX with RAV4 (it's like comparing a Citizen watch with a Rolex). They sure both tell you the same exact time, but can they really put together and discuss? I don't think so.
ok....enough with this...I hope all of you enjoy driving the RDX.

How are you finding the ride of the '08? Do you feel it's a "softer" ride as some say?

If your 2007 model is not that much of a price difference as compared to the 2008, then I suggest you to go for the 2008 model. I only test drove the 2007 model for like 5 mins and immediately fell in love with it. So, I didn't really pay too much attention to the supspension. I would say unless if you are really a car expert, otherwise ordinary driver like me would not notice the difference. Regardless of which year you getting, its still a great car. Good luck and have fun this weekend...I know how you feel

Have fun man. I'm incredibly jealous...for another week anyway. =)
After almost most a year of ownership (8/31/06) and 8K miles, I haven't really noticed the turbo lag. I don't really do jackrabbit starts and I don't consider myself an aggressive driver. I mostly have it kick in when I'm on the highway and the lag seems small but to break even or better when it does kick in.
I still may trade it in for a 2009 or 2010 model.
