I'd LOVE to see how the RDX performs under these same controlled tests! I would hope it does just as good as the Subaru, or, maybe better, hence, they didn't compare it to a Honda SH-AWD vehicle!

I saw a similar video with a Tribeca and some other competitors. The Subaru was best of course - it was pretty interesting - though I'm not sure how some of this will translate into the real world. They did more tests than this IIRC including some giant sandhill.

Having the VDC chime in is lame though. i would rather have real LSD's at work than braking wheels to force torque transfer and *barely* transfer a tiny bit of torque.

It's no surprise Subaru has an outstanding AWD system. They've been a pioneer in AWD/4WD car building for decades.

I too would like to see how the SH-AWD system works with a test similar to this. I've had mine in plenty of slick situations, even barreling through 14" of snow covered country road, and it behaved beautifully.

Here's something that is specific to Acura's SH-AWD.

A good friend of mine that works for Acura says the reason Subaru didn't compare against an Acura AWD (said Honda CRV AWD is no where as good as Acuras) is that Acura would kick Subaru's ass. He said even the last generation MDX (non SH-AWD) would still be better. True or not I don't know, but I'd like to think so.

Here is an older comparison:

A bit odd and biased, but interesting anyways:
