Turbo question.

Hello,

I was just wondering if the turbo spooling up is audible on the RDX? I think it's kind of a neat sound, and I was just curious if there was anything that you could do so that you could hear it a little bit more?

Also, I use to own a 2004 Grand Prix GTP, and I noticed that after I installed a cold air intake, the "whine" sound from the supercharger increased dramatically. Can something like this be done on the RDX?

Lastly, I haven't yet driven an RDX, but does the turbo put you into the back of your seat, or is it more of a subtle power gain?

Thanks!

It's audible with the climate control off and the radio off. Otherwise, it's not that noticeable. There's a few people on here with aftermarket intakes, and they have commented on how you can hear the turbo whine better, as well as the recirculation valve whooooosh . The power from a supercharger is more linear than a turbo from my experience. The torque on the RDX is rated at 260, your 04 GTP was probably a little more than that. I'm confident they have similar 0-60 times, but the power delivery is going to be different. The turbo does put you into the back of your seat. It has some turbo lag, so the you get a mighty surge of power when you lay your foot down. Definitely go and test drive the RDX. Do it with the climate control and stereo off. Have the salesperson be quiet for a few minutes. Have fun!

The turbo has the spool up rush. There isn't much noise when stock. A K&N drop in and silencer removal has a nice sound that isn't overbearing. A CAI is pretty loud and the odd thing is it's loudest when you are driving slow. It's actually fairly quiet under boost.

There is a plastic peice in front of the airbox. Almost every car has one of these and they typically do nothing but add more tubing and quiet intake noise.

Anyone happen to have a photo of the offending part? How does it come out?

Could someone that has removed the intake silencer make a quick video of their RDX reving? I'd love to hear how the RDX's turbo sounds.

I don't have any pictures, but open your hood. It is the piece of plastic between your air box and the front of the car and it's located between the battery and the fender.

To remove it, you need to slide your battery out of the way and wrestle it out. I think I pulled off my stock airbox (2 -10mm bolts and a couple clamp screws), then another bolt or two and it comes out.

You can always try a K&N drop in first and see if you like the noise.

go drive one.....?

honestly, after owning a CX-7, which had absolutely no turbo noise, spooling or blow off or otherwise, I actually think the RDX is quite loud, even stock. IMO, and im not judging this against other maybe more potent performance turbo vehicles, but from an NA engine to the RDX, you will notice it all big time...that was my reaction...ive grown to like it, but on first drive, i didnt care for it at all...but i had never owned a turbo vehicle either....maybe its due to lack of sound proofing in the Acura, but i find it very prominent, just my opinion....the main reason why i cancelled my order for the CAI
