TSX to RDX (opinions)

Hello all,

Well, I'm seriously contemplating the idea of swapping out my 07 TSX with Navi for an RDX. I'm hopefully going to be getting a new job, which would require me to work really odd hours and shifts. Therefore, I would like to have something that will offer me the assurance of getting through the crappy Chicago winters. I've always liked the RDX, and I would imagine that the SH-AWD and the turbo engine is a lot of fun. However, I was just wondering if I'm going to really regret dumping my TSX for the RDX. Any thoughts/advice? I haven't driven an RDX yet, but I love how they look.

Thanks much!

Jeff

no regrets, the RDX could quite possibly be better in every single aspect

Search in the BB, this question has been asked before and there is a lot of "comparisons" done by the guys here...

IMHO you need to ask yourself if buying snow tires is good enough...the RDX is thirsty for gas, has a stiff suspension, but it is fun to drive....in sum, more money to spend...ALso, with winter, what does it matter the new hours, it snows anytime and you have survived so far, right???

the tsx requires prem too....wont be too big of a jump in gas, and honestly all the performance you will gain with the RDX will wash away your concerns

TSX to RDX

One other consideration: The TSX might be a stick, and the RDX is auto/manumatic only. I do think the AWD and turbo, plus the additional space of the RDX are good considerations and would push me over the line, but it's your call if you will really miss a stick shift...

Don't believe that for a second...the RDX is really thirsty when compared to the TSX, the RDX EPA rating is 17/23 while the TSX is 20/29 (I may be off a mile or two)....you do the math and see if there is a big jump or not....

umm ok....since i drive my gf's tsx back to back with my rdx...hers in avg 24...mine is avg 19, considering the HUGE gap in performance, weight, cargo capacity, and SHAWD...ya do the math

edit: we have the same drive to work, same area etc. identical driving conditions. the TSX will obviously excel on highway driving more so than the RDX (so if ur work/weekly commute is 75-80% highway, you will take a hit in the MPG)...but mixed vs mixed.......id take the trade off on the RDX any day of the week...RDX fun to drive factor and power vs the TSX no questoin the truck wins

im not trying to say the RDX gets great mileage.

but if you are considering the RDX over the TSX....its just part of the territory, if mpg mattered alot to you, i highly doubt ud even consider the truck vs the tiny 4 cyl tsx

First of all, my TSX is auto.

Second of all, my main concern isn't really the gas. I think overall the RDX might be more fun to drive, with the added benefit of safety as well (snow). I love my TSX, but I managed to get myself stuck twice last winter. I suppose that I could swap out to snow tires, but I've just had the thought of maybe bumping up to an RDX. I guess I just thought I'd get some opinions on what people think of the TSX to RDX jump.

ill just mention again...the RDX is a step up in every category and once i think you test drive it and look into it, you will come to that conclusion.

We have both an 05 TSX and a 08 RDX.

The RDX is (subjectively) much more exciting and fun to drive.

I notice lighter steering, better suspension, backup camera, more power, less rattles in the RDX.

I've never been too keen on the navi system controls and menus in the RDX versus our TSX. But again, subjective.

Its my opinion that the 6spd TSX is miles more fun to drive than the RDX, which has a spongy throttle response and feels heavy and ponderous off of boost.

Since you're coming from the auto, it might not be a big deal, and the AWD and seating position is nice to have.

Personally, I'd offer to swap cars, if not for the fact that it isn't a manual.

I'm in the same position possibly too! Only thing is that I'm deciding between the RDX with Tech, Mitsubishi Outlander with Navi, or Nissan Rogue SL AWD loaded.

Do you think I could get a new 2008 RDX with Tech for $30,000-33,000? I would think the price would be lower because of 2 things:

1. not a lot of people are buying SUV's
2. the 2009 RDX's are already being sold.

I wouldn't touch the Outlander with a 10 ft pole given the quality issues that have befallen Mitsubishi of late. You can probably score an '08 RDX for $33K or so.

If you need to just get around, keep your TSX and get some good snow tires. If you want a do anything, go everywhere (well, almost everywhere), luxury sport wagon go with the RDX. As far as gas mileage goes, if you are worried about what the RDX gets you should consider an AWD CR-V that uses regular, but remember you always get what you pay for.

My dealership is selling a ton of MDXs and very few other Acuras. People who can afford them will buy them regardless of the price of gas. They know they are getting a premium vehicle at a not premium price.

The RDX is not an SUV, nor is the MDX for that matter, since it is not a truck (body-on-frame) vehicle. The RDX is classified as a sport wagon aka crossover. What you will save on buying an '08 RDX will be made up when you trade down the road. You can't beat the car dealers at their own game. The odds are always in their favor.
