Trunk bicycle rack on the RDX.
Hey,
Has anybody tried using the trunk mount bike rack on the RDX? I know some of the racks are OK for SUVs, but I'm trying to see if anyone has tried it on the RDX.
I'm especially concerned about the way the rear glass looks.
Please shoot me your thoughts.
Thanks

I'm much more of a fan of the trailer hitch receiver style...with a yakima trailer rack. A lot safer and easier to put on and take off. More of an investment, of course though.
I've had it on my 05 RSX-S and recently transferred to my 04 TL aspec...works like a charm!

Yes, hitch racks work great with the RDX. If you want to save money, mail-order the hitch and install it yourself. You don't need the trailer harness if you're only using the hitch a bike rack.

I tried the trunk rack on the RDX after posting the question here. I found out that the straps of the bike rack put pressure on the plastic parts of the lift gate. All contact points seem to be on plastic, none were resting on sheet metal. I felt very uncomfortable risking the fiber/plastic parts. So I went with a hitch mount, more expensive than a trunk mount but definitely cheaper than replacing plastic parts on the lift gate.
Also, the fit guide for Saris bike racks does not recommend trunk racks on the RDX, their models have similar contact points on the lift gate as any other trunk rack - so thats one more reason why not to go with a trunk rack on the RDX.
Long answer short: Dont put a trunk mounted bike rack on the RDX.

Does it block the back up camera
Just purchased a RDX 2009 tech package and want to know if mounting a saris bike rack off a trailer hitch will block the rear camera picture. The camera is offset from the center of the rear bumper but just not shure if putting a rack in the way will totally block the image. I'm shure when there is a bike on the rack the picture will be blocked but my question is more for when the bike rack is only attached

I have a Saris Thelma hitch rack. No problem with the rear view camera when there is no bike in the rack. Putting a bike in the rack does block the camera a little (probably depends on the shape of your bike).
