hi..i have a 2012 rdx sh-awd..just want to know if it has a timing belt or chain and what is the maintenance schedule for this.

 

 

You just have the 105,000 miles service that could include:
- valve adjustment (replace gasket)
- spark plugs
- oil change
- sometimes water pump and antifreeze change
- serpentine belt kit

I think it was under $600 for my 08 RDX 105K service back in 2014 at the dealership. I think I paid about the same for my 06 TSX with timing chain; but, it was $1500 for my MDX with a timing belt. It is usually just filter and fluid changes for the RDX before/after the 105K service. I would add serpentine belt if it has been +7 years, brake fluid if +3 years, and power steering fluid if it has never been changed. I've had pretty good luck sticking with the M.I.D. for maint; with the exception of doing the cabin/engine filters myself every spring and the dealership changing the 5AT/transfer/rear-diff every 30K (about $100 for 5AT 1X drain/fill).

 

 

Valve adjustment is BS and waste of money unless valves are noisy. 173K and never did adjustment, engine is nice and quiet.

 

i have a new rattle that stated lately.

 

I have a very similar sound, but when I put my head under the hood it sounds like it's coming from the little hose that runs from the turbo to the intercooler. My suspicion is a small vacuum leak, perhaps from a crack in the hose. Already have a replacement on the way, plan to swap within the next few weeks when I do some other scheduled maintenance. A vacuum leak would be most noticeable when letting off the gas (throttle closed at higher rpm creates the most vacuum within the plumbing...also why it would go away when you apply throttle again).

I'd recommend trying to trace the actual source down with a friend. Let them goose the engine a bit while you listen under the hood - preferably in a garage so you can hear everything well. If you still hear it while parked, it rules out anything to do with the wheels or suspension.

Absolutely! I'm getting all the parts this week and planning to break out my maintenance over a couple weekends. This coming weekend will be shocks, rear brakes and if time, that hose. Next weekend will be the struts.

I am hoping that I'm correct in my suspicion. It's audible at idle, but louder when letting off the gas and completely silent when revving or even holding the engine at 2k+ rpm. The noise appears to scale directly with the amount of vacuum. The good news is that the car still drives fine, and considering the location, it's actually a boost leak under throttle. So, perhaps my car will run a bit richer and make a bit less power under boost, but I'm not throwing any codes so I assume it's very small.

i think i found root issue for rattle when coming from power back to idle.
i think the connector between the VGT actuator (top of turbo) and the exhaust valve flap (middle of turbo) is worn
i will try to get pictures

Yeah, I thought that at first, but mine sounds more like air moving and not metal rattling. Think similar to the sound you hear when you have a leak in your tire while driving, only sped up significantly. I'm starting to wonder about gaskets in that area. From a visual inspection (as best as one can with all parts in place), mine doesn't appear to have any significant wear or play. Also, none of the typical codes or performance issues associated with the worn actuator are showing up. In fact, aside from this noise, there are no symptoms at all.

 

You might have to replace you’re cat heat shields top and bottom like I did..
