stone chip

Folks,

Received the first stone chip on the hood last week, about quarter of an inch, dented the metal, removed the paint right down to the metal.

There's a visible indentation where the chip is. What's the best way to take care of this? Would body shop fix something like this or do i just try to cover up the metal with touch up paint, and just bear not looking at the damn spot. In any case, touch up would not take care of the darned dent.

Thanks for your tips.

It sounds like you need paintless dent repair followed by a touch-up or airbrush job. There was a guy in Monterey who used to do this for both my cars every six months or so, and he was so good that you literally couldn't tell there had been any blemishes on the cars before he did his magic.

Try some bodyshop putty, to cover up the indentation, then sand down with 2000 grit sand paper. Paint over the sanded spot with touch up paint, and then sand down again with 2000 grit paper. Follow up with Meguiars Scratch-X and waxing. It will not be perfect, but at least cheaper than having to paint the whole hood.

Are you sure it was a rock?

Maybe the hood is imploding on itself given the shaky quality of Acura vehicles.

I'll post a pic later tonight, but my wife drives the car, and she said a truck was passing by her, and she heard something hit the car as the truck went by. I've never seen a chip this bad. My 00 TL has nowhere close to having any chip like this, literally a sharp pointy dented metal. Local body shop said it can be claimed off insurance. You'd think someone walked by and did it on purpose. I guess chips will happen eventually, but dang, this is just a bad one for the first one...

You'd be suprised by the stuff that comes off some trucks on the highway. Most of the time you never see it only hear it impact your car. I've only got 7000 miles on mine yet the windshield is a little pitted from rock chips as is the front bumper.

Folks,

Just got the RDX from the shop last week where they fixed the bad chip, looks perfect now. Need to let cure the paint for the next 6 weeks where they fixed.

Has anyone bought the new hood deflector? If yes, was it an easy install, and if in canada, how much did it cost you? Thinking of going either hood deflector or clearbra protection.

thank you

Cost was about $300, all picked up by insurance. Couple of days in the shop.
