RX350 vs RDX

I was checking the Lexus.ca site, and notice they have finally adjusted the prices for Canadians. 2009 Lexus RX350 standard price is only $44,300 (of course we are still paying a lot higher than US folks but at least better than before :P ). Comparing to RDX base, it is only $3K difference. If this happened 18 months ago when I bought my RDX, I might seriously reconsider. Unfortunately, back in Sept 2006, there was basically no other better choices at $40K price range in Canada. RX price was at the MDX price range in Canada back then.

Anyway, what do you guys think with the RX350 and RDX in almost the same price range? Would your decision change if you haven’t bought it?

To me, they are both luxury SUVs, but RX350 is more quiet and less stiff suspension, and RDX is more sporty.

If I have to pick one from Infiniti EX and RDX, I will probably still with the RDX (Both of of are at CDN$41K base price).

the rx drives no where near similar to the acura, the acura is no where near as luxurious as the lexus.

also, consider, the RX is a very outdated model, chassis, and design and is just flat out OLD compared to the engineering, technology, general newness of the RDX.

I know what you mean. But, for lot of people (including myself), are comparing vehicles in the same price range with brand name, reliability and what they offer. For people in Canada who are shopping for premium SUV, I think lot of us are mainly looking for a premium line 4 wheel drive to get through the winter days instead of having a SUV with a “race car feel”.

Yes, agree. RX’s look is so outdated !!! Yet, I do love its luxurious and quietness :P

if you value something more 'truck like' why not a limited v8 4-runner? if driving characteristics arent that important, which is seems to me if ur comparing the RX with the RDX it really isnt that big of a deal....id spring for a v8 4-runner. skip the lexus bs and get a real 4wd for that canadian weather

First off, Toyota is not the premium brand like Lexus or Acura, secondly, it is a V8  the gas mileage will kill me, and I DO NOT need an off road car (even I did mention we need a 4 wheels drive to get through the snowing days.) Lastly, its price is over CDN$50K in Canada, which is the MDX price range here. Totally not compatible to RDX in terms of price, gas mileage, brand name.

350 would probably be more fuel efficient (400h definately will be).

If i was gonna get the RX, I'd get the 400h over the RDX, else RDX.

But the premium price you paid on the 400H will take 5 yrs+ to save it from the gas. And the maintenance cost to 400h could be higher too.

My problem with the Lexus is that I see at least one at every stop light. I like the fact that there are not too many RDX's out there.

According to Toyota/Lexus, RX350 is the most popular luxury SUV among middle aged women. The RDX targets a somewhat different demographic.

hate to break the bad news but if u think ur gonna get decent mileage with the rdx...unless ur straight highway expect 14-17 city best case scenario avg. thats maybe a bit better than a V8 4 runner.

anyways,

altho the toyota isnt what u may consider premium, ur description of wanting 4 wd i took literally to mean 4wd not an AWD system, thus my recommendation of the toyota on those grounds.

sounds like u already have ur opinion on lock anyways, just get the acura n call it a day. altho they may be similar in price, the RX and RDX couldnt be MORE different.

RX has always been a very popular sale for Lexus and Why change something when it's making them money?

God knows its been popular, that's why its been around so long. I was simply stating, i'm tired of seeing the same car all the time, that's all.

i don't blame lexus for continuing to make it, but that doesn't mean i have to like it

another thing I want to add, a friend of mine's boss got a 350 and shes sat in both cars (as front passenger) and says the rdx is a lot more roomier.

btw this poll is too biased, you can't ask this question in an RDX forum :P

I directly compared the LX400h to the RDX when making my decision. I love Lexus (even more than Acura), but in this couldn't see paying that price premium for a slightly cushier interior. That seemed to be the big advantage the RX had, whereas the RDX is significantly sportier. It all depends on what you're looking for, and I can see why so many consumers go for the RX (in all its various trims).

I love our RX350; more comfortable, more luxurious...looks better in my opinion (sorry guys)...more hp and torque...but it's not as techy as the rdx...

Cars couldnt be more different. My wife has an IS350 and we get the RX loaner from time to time. It is a lot more "luxury" ride than the rdx which is like a sports car. Biggest problem I have is that the model we are given is fwd(yuck). I guess the awd RX is nice but dont know. Other difference is that the Lexus dealer and service blows away the Acura experience at least in my area.

If you want sporty SUV/CUV get the RDX..if you want a more luxo ride then the RX is for you..imho

When I was shopping for cars, I poked around a Lexus dealer before deciding on the RDX. The salesman at Lexus had previously worked at an Acura so he knew both brands quite well (although not so much the RDX). He was trying to sell me on the RX but pretty much all he could tell me that was 'better' than Acura was that the RX headlights turn with the wheel and it has a power tailgate. Talk about two items I couldn't care less about. Not to mention the RX was much more expensive, even for a base model, and the option packages added up fast. Needless to say, I ended up with the RDX not long after.

Based on Acurazine history, I think this discussion thread would have been more interesting if you included a Saturn and a Mazda in your poll.
