roof rack BIG disappointment

I ordered my rdx with the roofrack and now that it is time to install the roofbox carrier I can not change the front cross bar completely to the front. I did not tryed to move the one in the rear. Now I have to put the carrier way to the front and drill some holes. I do not think that I will do it because it could be verry dangerous on the road if my carrier will fly from the roof.

Has there been others with the same problem and do you have solutions with pictures if possible

thanks

I agree, the roof rack setup is flimsy. I upgraded the factory ski attachment to the Thule ski attachment (fits 4 snowboards instead of 2). Putting it on was easy....but the crossbars seem very flimsy and that plastic liner piece you have to cut yourself to fit the thing is flimsy. Very poorly designed roof rack. I dont know about your box...but hopefully someone with one will show you how to put it on.

The RDX roofrack is only offered for people who think without one their ride won't look like an SUV. I don't believe the RDX was designed for people who really need a roof rack. Name one SUV in this class that has fewer vehicles on the street with roof racks. 85% of RDX's come without one, because most buyers don't want it. I've yet to see another RDX on the street with a roof rack.

Remember, like some of ads say, this is a sports car masquerading as a SUV.

I like the looks of the rack w/out the x-bars, which are in the garage. I guess if I really needed to carry something significant I'd look elsewhere too.

Since I haven't sucked up, and decided my rack option yet....We are taking the other car when we need to put sometihng on the roof (surfboard, bikes, etc).
Full YakRak system on the Subaru, and it gets used!!!

I purchased the roof rack because I ski. There are a couple of things that do bug me.
1). roof design, the roof rack is not the same distance from front to back, the distance is between the front rails is about 1 inch wider then the back.
2). cross bar placement, because of this (1) you can not move the cross bars all the way to the front, this is about 4" or 5" which is a lot. you can move a cross bar to about a 1/4" from the back with no problem though.

+1. I found this out after attaching a Yakima Fat Cat 6. Still works OK, but it would help my snowboard clamp down a lot better if the front crossbar went a little further towards the front.

That's interesting. Maybe they assumed people wouldn't want it that far front as it would block the sunroof. But who knows.

Thule would be my choice of racks when needed.

I bought the roof rail and got it setup last night too
and I also purchase the thule universal pull top snowboard(4)/ski(6) attachment as well, however the clamp doesn't fit on our rdx crossbar. Therefore I will have to go to purchase the clamp that fit for our rdx. Any idea what's the part model.

And can anyone post some pictures of their roof racks, basically I want to see the side view of it (with the crossbar on top of the roof rails) to make sure I did it correctly. Thanks

Thule option

Thule just came out with a fit kit and feet to fit the RDX. There are really sharp looking. A lot better looking than the old 400 model feet. If you go onto the Thule website it shows it for around $300. On my RDX I just use the base with Thule cross bars. When I am not using it I just remove the cross bars for less noise.

We haul both our kayaks on the stock rack and have for over two years now. We bought some Yakima posts and adaptors that fit perfect. The rack and crossbars are very sturdy and secure.

Have never had an issue.

I want to install a roof rack to hold a stand up paddle board. Is the antennae at the rear of the roof going to be in the way?

Agree 100%

Makes the RDX look taller, larger and better proportioned.
We had it set as a must have when getting the vehicle.

Ditto BIG dissapointment it should qualify as a factory recall with a fix, since the railing is there but it does not seem to be square.

So Acura would not cover under warranty, my exploded sunroof (see other threads) on RDX 2019. Blamed it on tying my kayak upside down directly onto the Acura Cross-bars and NOT using an ACURA BRAND KAYAK ROOF RACK! The acura kayak rack which i have now purchased is probably the worst i have ever used (not counting the $20 blocks of foam option). It is horrible but i'll spare yall the details.
Point is - use a non-acura carrier at your own risk - it just gives Acura another reason to reject claims of manufacturer defects on exploding tempered glass.

You may want to post this in the 3rd gen forums vs bumping a 12 year old thread. Good luck with your issue though - hopefully Acura will cave when there is enough blowback.
