Reverse Camera mod to base '11?
Reverse Camera mod to base '11?
Hey RDXers,
I'm a TSX owner, and looking to upgrade my wife's Civic to an '11 or '12 RDX AWD.
The only tech package option she really needs is the bigger reverse camera screen (we don't use nav or bluetooth audio much).
I was wondering if there's any way to patch the backup camera from the mirror over to the in-dash display on the base model, or would I have to do a complete tech package retrofit?
My search results are not promising, so my guess is the answer is no, but it can't hurt to ask!
I have no issue spending the cash to get the tech version, my only issue is inventory. There are very few RDXs on the market, and if we limit ourselves to AWD+Tech, it's going to be more difficult to snag one.
TIA

i see your schwartz is as big as mine..
tech would be the way to go if you want it in the dash.. or do a custom after market double din in its place that allows back up camera hook up.. stay away from adding the tech package to a base.. its wayyyyyyyyyyyyyy to much work..

About twenty years ago a mechanic gave me some really good advice. I wanted to know what I could do to my VW to make it as fast as possible. His advice was, "Trade it off and buy a 911."
You can spend a ton of money trying to add speed or features to a car, but it will never be as good as one that rolls off the line with factory built power and features.
Next time buy the car you want, not the one you can afford. If you really want it, you can find a way to fund it.

There should be some 11 and 12 RDXs coming of lease for the next 6-18 months. Unless you going to purchase new, finding a used Acura in the tech level, mileage, and color combo can take several months. It took me 8 months to find my 08 RDX tech in the right color combo. I looked for 3 months and driving +5 hours to another state for my MDX.
I would go for the the RDX with things you cannot change like color combo, sh-awd, tech, and mileage. Then I would looking into something I can change later like rear view camera.
