reading VINs..

hi there all..

just want to make sure i'm doing this right... on an '07 RDX with VIN# 5J8TB18557A006900

the numbers i (may or may not) want to be concerned with are the "006900", correct?

this particular car being from an older batch?

thanks so much!

sbp

p.s. zero-ing in on an RDX purchase within the next 2 weeks...

yes that means it is the 6900th vehicle produced. Highest I have seen at the dealer is in the 17000s.

To give you an idea how "old" this one might be. I ordered mine the end of August and took delivery the end of October and my VIN is somewhere around 9500 - can't recall the exact number now.

I got mine a couple of weeks ago, not sure how long it was on the dealer's lot, but it was delivered with just shy of 110 miles on it. It has a number in the high 12000s.

When I was at the dealer today I snuck a peak at the VIN report for my car. It supposedly underwent PDI on 11/30/06 with a VIN of 012857. It was sold to me on 1/17/07 with 107 miles on it so I figure that isn't so bad for a car that sat on the lot for a month and a half.

I am also trying to figure out all the different dates that I have come across. My VIN is 160XX- looking at the sticker on the driver door, it shows 12/06. So the car was manufactured in December of 2006. I picked up the car from the dealer on 1/30/2007

In the Maintenance Journal that came with the car- on page V, there is place for the TQI (Total Quality Inspection) Technician to sign and date. Mine shows 1/06/07. I wonder if that is signed by someone at the plant in OHIO before the car is shipped out.

Below that, there is also a place for the Quality Control Inspector to sign and date. Mine shows 1/26/07. I wonder if that's when the dealer tech did the PDI (Post Delivery Inspection?).

The Canadian models are on a separate numbering sequence from the US models.

Sat on the lot here (upstate NY) and was traded to closest dealer (vermont) then was traded back here (by my request for color, interior). I finally purchased it 3 months after Sasair did (about x-mas time) with 300 miles on it. Vin number only 545 cars younger then his, and he's from Virginia. Darn these cars can do some mileage on flat bed or by road by the infamous "70 yo guy who is a very responsible driver will drive your car back from VT." LOL

Another interesting piece of information to include when you report your VIN and purchase date would be the date that it was prepared by the dealer - I found the date listed in my maintenance manual (the one that includes pages for writing down when major service is performed) in a set of "checklist" pages for initial inspection.

I documented above that I had seen the dealer VIN report for my car which listed the PDI on 11/30/06 for VIN 128XX, but the pages listed in my maintenance manual actually showed a little bit earlier date - 11/24. And, of course, purchased on 1/17/07.
