male lawyers don't buy rav4's. they get porsche cayenne turbo's. Hell, female lawyers get something in the lines of q7's, a4 wagons, and ML500's.
Now not everyone who passes the BAR exam will eventually become a partner and make boatloads of money but I'm sure they'll make enough to get something a little better and more luxurious than a Rav4.
If my wife got me a rav4, and i wanted an rdx... I'd be on this site trolling too. Trying my best to get RDX owners to agree that they have a crappy car therefore, justifying my ownership of a chic car.

I put 276 miles on my RDX today and got 22.6 mpgs. I'm a happy guy. I'm getting better milage it seems now that I have more mileage. So there nanny nanny poo poo. and quit saying we are immature here.

It's also about 3 mpg's better than what we've achieved (19.79 mpg) in our long-term Mitsubishi Outlander that has 49 fewer horses. Hybrids and alternative fuels may be the future, but the RAV4's power to fuel economy trade off is the type of mass-market efficiency that can make a difference NOW -- to both my devil and angel.

He absolutely loves remaining inconspicious. I can understand a thread dedicated to inciting some violence, but he doesnt even engage enough to make it worthwhile for himself.

I came across this old thread in a search, and thought that since we're about halfway through the hypothetical 5-year ownership period "total cost analysis" proposed by Kaiserseal, let's see how we're doing:
I'm not sure how to go back to 2007 MSRPs, but looking at current MSRPs for '09 models, the RAV4 is $32,804 "comparably equip'd" (meaning Limited V-6, 4x4, Leather package) to a base RDX that retails for $34,655. Difference of $1,851. I suspect this was roughly similar for the '07s. Kaiser may have paid $26,500 for his RAV4, but it certaintly didn't have a comparable feature list.
Using KBB trade-in figures for 2007 models as described above, with 24k miles, the RDX is worth $3k more today. So, you're actually AHEAD with the RDX, relative to MSRP.
Not sure what was assumed for this, but all my RDX has required is oil changes and a tire rotation. RDX requires synthetic, but it lasts at least 6mo under the "severe schedule." So, even assuming a worst case of paying double in oil change costs relative to the RAV4, you're maybe saving $50/yr.
Mileage is the one area where you're actually going to save money, but not nearly as much as assumed. Using Consumer Reports data (they use "real world" tests and are quite consistent in testing methodologies) they achieve overall MPG of 18 in the RDX and 22 in the RAV4. Using gas price assumptions of $2.50 and $2.70 for regular and premium respectively, you get annual savings of $545 for 15k miles, or a bit over $2700 across the 5yr period.
Let's add up the real figures:

Total: 3,652 extra cost of RDX over 5 years. Appologies to those that were banking on an extra $23k of savings...

I drove a Rav4 V6 AWD for two weeks as a rental. When it came time to buy a luxury SUV, it didn't even cross my mind. The interior is inline with the Fords I have driven in the past, and the driving experience is anything but thrilling. Off the line acceleration? Are you serious? How often do you floor it? How often do you take the on and off ramps with spirit?

Me and many people are getting RDX techs for $32k or less. I doubt Toyota is giving 6k off MSRP for the RAV4.
However, I do wish they just put the 3.5 motor in the RDX. Fuel efficiency is not this car's forte. I am getting worse mileage than my recently departed 2006 GTO, around town where the SUV aerodynamics don't come into play.

C'mon guys. It's a friggin Acura. You hold the car up like it's some sort of icon. It's still far short from a BMW or Benz. I'm telling you - the emperor has no clothes. You can convince yourself all you want, but when all the doo dads wear off but I stand by my previous comments that the RDX it's not much more than a gussied up CR-V.

First, before I start know that I love Acura’s. I have owned an Integra, my wife drive's an MDX, and until last week I drove an RL. My RL, with a lousy 16MPG had to go in favor of something a bit more efficient. I previously had an RDX for a week while my RL was in for service, and really felt the loss of size from our MDX. A friend took me out in his RAV4, and a day later I bought one.
The RAV4 with 270 HP is faster than a RL, TL, and much faster than an RDX. I have been averaging 25 MPG on my commute, hitting 30MPG on a long trip with regular fuel. In the twistys it is not as sharp as the RDX, but damn close. Additionally it is bigger, I opted for the one with a third row. I have driven nothing but Honda products for about ten years and never thought I would jump ship. I am not writing this to set off RDX owners, I want to know how is it that Toyota can get this much horsepower, seat 7, and still return economy gas mileage on 87 OCTANE GAS??? My RAV4 even blows away the micro CIVIC SI in speed and MPG. Even the Civic SI needs premium gas. The final kick in the butt, the RAV4 is made in Japan and costs 25K. How does Toyota do it?

Just came across this thread as a buddy just bought a RDX, I have a 05 RL and my wife has a 06 RAV V6 Sport. I really like the RDX but my wife doesn't care about luxury features so I bought her a V6 Rav that is much more reliable than her old VW Cabrio, 35k miles and no problems yet. I didn't really like the tire on the back at first but when I opened up the back and saw the giant compartment below the carpet where the tire would go I was happy. I got the best of both worlds with the RL and the RAV, plus the RAV was the last 06 on the lot so I got it for $900 below invoice. I'm sure the RDX handles better then her RAV even though it's a Sport, used 09 MDX though for her in the future. She didn't like the ride of the RDX but it was a sacrifice I would make. Hers is front wheel drive so there is no comparison there anyways, not that there is any AWD system that compares to SH-AWD anyways, except BMW just came out with one. Like someone said earlier we all buy our vehicles for a reason so to each his own, I would have chosen a RDX but my wife chose the RAV, case closed. P.S.
