Is the RDX faster than the 07 MDX?

I just read the full test reports on the RDX and the 07 MDX on Edmunds.com. They stated that 0-60 for the RDX was 6.8 seconds while that for the 07 MDX was 8.1 seconds.

Are these accurate figures? Does that mean that the RDX is significantly faster than the 07 MDX???

We are looking at both and I saw those two numbers on Edmunds. I'd imagine the RDX is a bit quicker on its feet, as torque numbers are very close, and it weighs a nice 600 pounds less. I am still slightly surprised as there is only about a 2 lb difference in weight per ft lb of torque, and the MDX makes more HP for torque. I suppose it is possible that the AWD system is beefier and thus eats more power. Drag probably also comes into play ever so slightly, as well as the characteristics behind a turbos torque curve.

Mike, do you think those numbers are real?

Mike, have you seen any other such numbers for these two vehicles published anywhere else? I wonder if the number is really a bit too slow for the 07 MDX - maybe it was a mistake?

Anyway, have you test driven both vehicles yet and if so, how do they compare?

We are going tomorrow to test drive both. So far I have only been in (not driving myself) an RDX. I am going to ask if I can test drive the vehicles (I have a valid license, but am not 18) with a salesman. I do imagine, however, that if I get on the gas, they will not be too happy.

As per car and driver both the RDX and MDX hit 60 in 7.5.

Well it is a LOT lighter. My father just put an MDX on order so i'll let you guys know if i ever run an RDX.

He drove the RDX and said it felt rather quick for its class. Then again he and i both drive Turbo'd Subarus that run circles around either car. But he liked em both, just wanted the bigger MDX.

Only problem is that the butt dyno will almost always have a Turbo car as feeling fsater since the Turbo-kick is abrupt compared to the linear powerband of a V6.

I read that the MDX is faster than the X5 and Cayenne but who knows if that means the V6 or V8 versions (obviously not the Cayenne Turbo).

i personally own a RDX...and my mom got the 07 MDX........(so i've drove both car)... from my experience the RDX feel faster off the line and do accerate faster.... the MDX just doesn't have that pull feeling when you steps on the gas.... but once it reach around 5k rpm then you can feel the car pulling.... but any RPM under that... the car seem slow..... BUT since the MDX weight close to 700lbs more with only 5lb torque (turning force from stop to go) increase from the RDX, you will expect the delay when off the line.....but once it reach the peak HP (300Hp @ 4800rpm) then the car will start moving.......

but in the end the MDX is completely different!!... RDX give you the tight corner and the MDX is so much Smother.... AND ALOT QUIETER....

Just adding my 2cent.........

The only way to tell is to find 1/4mi times for both cars. Frankly the MDX should have a better top end, so better Highway performance due to the 3.7 V6. 300hp is a lot compared to the RDX, but the MDX weighs a lot more.

But really, is anyone racing a MDX or RDX? lol. Go find a Forester 2.5XT they'll show you how a SUV races.
