oil change interval

What's everybody's oil change interval. I bought my RDX in March, its May and I have around 2100 miles and an oil % of 20%. What gives? I know we can reset this but i dont' want to reset it if the car oil% really is 20% but at 2100 miles and i don't even blast the car that badly is odd

Does the RDX "REQUIRE" Synthetic?

I currently use Synthetic in my TL even though regular is fine because I like the added protection it gives me, but I always buy my own oil and filter from Walmart and then have my dealership just change if for me. Works out cheaper than Acura's Synthetic Oil change.

Yes, the RDX requires synthetic oil. Would probably void your warranty if you didn't use synthetic.

I always use Mobil 1 5w-30. $23-26 at Wal Mart and a OEM filter. Mountainous driving. Average change interval at 5% is 5800 miles.

I think the oil change interval in the RDX is pathetic. My Porsche also uses Mobil 1. The oil change interval on it is once per year or 20K miles, whichever comes first.

your porsche also holds nearly 10 quarts of oil AND is not subjected to the heat of a turbocharger.

not comparable.

also from RDX owner uoa's the MID is on the conservative side, i.e. you can drive it beyond 0% if you needed too....

but I cannot believe people are complaining, I love changing the oil on my cars then again im a DIY'er and not someone that has to pay the 80 or 90 bucks at the dealer :P

My Oil change on the RDX costs about 30 bucks plus my 30 minutes of my time (that includes clean up as well).

Hey Mau108, how do you get to $30? I sucked it up and got the oil change and the paperwork (its in the car so i dont have the exact figures) says each quart of oil is ~$10 and I think the oil filter at $6? so that's $56 minumum and the rest labor.

I've never done an oil change before but I think i will try it on the next interval since I want to learn and the DIY thread looks straight forward but if i can get it done for $30, ill do it.

Because I change the oil my self, oil is 22 bucks (on sale) plus about 7 bucks or so for the filter (Carquest blue or Napa gold all aka WIX)

Ah 22 bucks for oil. I got it. You mentioned doing it yourself of course, I just didnt' know you were able to get oil so cheaply. I mean, at 22/5 = ~4 per quart and dealer and several shops told me it was 10.

Cheers

America goes to Walmart
Last time they had sale and I picked up Penzoil Platinum for $20 (5qt).
I usually like to use Mobil1, but my local walmart always have an empty shelf for 5w30, so I got Penzoil.
Don't listen to anyone, Penzoil is just as good. call your dealer or customer care if you want them to acknowledge that.

I don't doubt that many other quality synthetics are just as good, or better, than Mobil 1. However, I was surprised to see the language "Use only Mobil 1 5w30" printed on the oil fill cap... I can understand the marketing guys working a deal to promote a certain oil brand, and have the manual/oil cap say "we recommend Mobil 1," but I don't understand the "use only" language, as if they could void your warranty for using something else.

I think they could. I was at the dealer and a person put non synthetic oil cheapie oil change on the car and Acura refused to fix the engine (which was really in bad shape) under warranty. They could spot the difference between synthetic and regular oil too.

Now mobile vs penzoil i dunno...

FYI Porsche voids it too.

The cap says "Use Mobil1 only". and then in small print it says "or compatible oil". So Penzoil is fine.

Stop tripping guys, call your dealer or customer care and ask if Penzoil platinum will void your warranty on engine, and they will tell you no.

Here is official message from Acura:
"Acura recommends that you always use Mobil 1 5W-30 or an equivalent
oil that meets the Acura HTO-06 standard
."

Here is another Acura quote:
"To prevent engine damage that may not be covered
by your warranty, look for an engine oil that displays
Acura’s HTO-06 standard on the label."

Don't need to be a lawyer to tell that Penzoil Platinum 5w-30 is perfectly fine.

Always used Mobil 1 5W30 in my GTO, will keep using it in the RDX as well. Oil and tires are the most important parts in a car, do not cheap out on them...
