Oil Change

I knew I didn't drive a lot but this is ridiculous. Monday through Friday I drive my car to the local train station and it just sits there so I knew I wouldn't put a lot of miles on the RDX but I will have had it for one year in April and I have less than 4000 miles on it.

The oil life indicator is still at 30% but does that also factor in the time since the last oil change or only the amount of oil used? Should I get an oil change anyway?

The Maintenance Minder is right on target Claire. It should take you to the mileage limit or one year.

4000 miles over 9 months is about 440 miles/month. With 30% remaining you should make it to approximately 5300 miles by April (3 more months @ 440/month).

5300 is a typical change interval for people who drive more frequently, so you are getting good life out of your oil.

Wow! A $35K cute ute to drive to the train station? I thought I was being extravagant when I drove a 2000 Camry for a "train station" car.

It is possible that the X gets driven on weekends, too.

The oil needs to be changed once a year even if the Maintenance Minder does not say that it's due.

check your dipstick. smell the oil, look at the color, rub it between your fingers to check consistency. if it's really black, smells smokey (doesn't smell like oil should, more like burnt grease), or feels gritty, might as well change it.
