Now the brakes are probably shot

I just got finished replacing 4 bald tires on our RDX after not even 18,000 miles. Now our brakes are making a horrible grinding noise. Off to the dealer Monday for an inspection. I fully expect for the front brakes to be worn out and they will probably get me for turning the rotors or even worse new front rotors. Seems like I am managing to go through all the non-warranty wear items in less than a year. What's next? Maybe my wife is using this thing as a club racer when I'm not around!

How the hell do you go through tires and brakes in one year? Mine are going to get me 30k or so.

Mine is a year old tomorrow. About 12K. Tires are about half way. I beat on them pretty good (high temps and high speeds in DFW). Brakes seem fine.

We do live in a mountainous area. Lots of up, downs and twisties. Still, less than 18,000 miles, come on.

The service tech says the brakes are fine. He attributes the metal on metal grinding noise that happens from time to time on "brake dust accumulation". The brakes do seem to work well, but is he full of BS about the brake dust? Also, I have never had a car with good brakes make such a nasty sound. Anybody else experienced this problem?

Sounds more like normal ABS sound if you are trying to stop on wet/icy roads.

I know with my older hondas, an unusual griding noise can happen if a little stone or grain gets stuck within the brakes. procedure to get it out was always D to R to D forward and back lke 10 ft a few times, and it would get the stone/sand whatever out. I would hear a slight ping noise of the piece coming lose.

dunno if that is it but worth a try
