New RDX Review

Interestingly, they averaged 21 mpg. Decent review.

Thanks for posting. I don't own a RDX, so I'm wondering what rpm does the engine run at in 5th gear at 60mph?

i think something like 2000rpm's. I'm concerned about where max boost kicks in. because cruising at 80-85mph with max boost isn't good with the gas.

Just checked Motortrend, the RDX's engine spins at 2050rpm at 60mph in 5th gear. I guess that's part of the reason for the hwy fuel economy being not as high as expected. For reference, 1850rpm for CX7, 1700rpm for Rav 4.

As I was looking up for the above information, I came across this review of the RDX (it's old, dated back in September). But I thought I would like to share it with some of you. It's quite interesting that they compared the acceleration, slalom speeds, and braking with the BMW 3.0i (not the newest one) and CX7. It says that the RDX can do 0-60 in 6.8s, beating both the BMW and Mazda (they both need more than 8 seconds). Also the slalom speed is 2mph higher than cx7. But the braking distance is 127ft, which is 4 ft more than the mazda, and 9 more than the BMW (with sport package).

As someone already posted, it's close to 2000 rpm at 60mph. I think it's still under 3000 at 75.

There is rarely much boost at fairly constant highway speeds. The only time I've seen max boost in top gear is when I've slowed down from a fairly high cruise control setting, and then let the car get back up to speed. It does not downshift but does max out the boost.

Goes to show that its hard to write a bad review of this car especially if you get to drive one for a few days on some windy roads, thats where its so much fun to drive. I mean sure there are some minor things that could be tweaked, but whats really not to like! ( so far, fingers crossed)

Isn't the CX-7 mileage rated the same as the RDX?

Under steady cruising you should have no or almost no boost. It only comes on when your foot is in the accelerator pretty hard.

I think it does, but in most reviews the RDX does get a a little bit better mileage than the CX7. It's weird that the CX7 has direct injection and it spins at lower rpm but yet its fuel economy isn't any better. I think its stroke is a little bit longer than the RDX? I need to check on that first. If that's true, then it's possible that the total distance travelled by each piston is longer even if the engine is operating at lower rpm.

Ok, RDX has a 99mm stroke, CX7 has a 94mm stroke...so I guess the pistons inside the RDX is travelling more distance than the CX7's. Also the CX7 has a CR of 9.5:1 and RDX has a CR of 8.8:1. So theoretically, the CX7 should be more efficient. But I think the variable flow turbo in the RDX is very effective, so in the end the RDX gets a little bit better mileage than the CX7.

Please correct me if what I said was wrong, thanks.
