Navigation Screen Auto Dimming

I am having a problem with my nav screen always starting up in day mode regardless of the headlight switch and whether it is dark or light out. Anyone else experiencing this? According to the manual, it should automatically switch to night mode if the headlights are on and the sun sensor detects the dark. Mine always starts in day mode, and I have to hit the button to switch it to night mode.

Check the setup options

There is a setup option in the map section that lets you select automatic or manual day/night mode.

Page 104 clearly states the conditions that the screen shoud go into night mode automatically, but mine does not.

in order of priority:

1. day/night button (overrides all other conditions when pressed)
2. sensor detects daylight and the headlights are on, the nav overrides the night mode and displays day mode.
3. headlights on and dash illumination in the full bright position, nav is in day mode.
4. headlights turned on, nav goes into night mode.

Mine doesn't work this way. When my dash illumination is not set to full bright and my headlights are turned on, the nav screen does not switch to night mode. I haven't touched the button, and it is night time and dark outside.

My next step is to take it to the dealer, but was just wondering if everyone else's is working properly. Basically anytime I get in the car at night and start the car it is in day mode. When I turn the lights on it stays in day mode.

You may want to look at pages 83, 102 and 103. Mine works according to the way I set it.

No problems with mine either, did you make sure the day/night override switch is in the day position and the headlights are not in the on position before the car is started?

ive had this same prob on my tsx... if i have it on auto, its always day view... what i found out was, on the speedometer... that knob that turns interior lighting dim.... dont turn that all the way... when ur headlights are ON... turn it one step down, then it should remember that when headlights are on, the speedometer isnt the brightest and the navi screen is on night mode... worked on tsx... try it on this...

There is no day position as it is just a button, but if I have the screen set to night mode using the button, and I shut the car off and back on, it comees back in day mode. Headlights on or off, doesn't matter.

I have also tried different setting for the dash illumination with no luck.

I am going to the dealer today or tomorrow to have them look at it. I'd go right now, but I want to go at night so they can see what I am talking about....

Well I took it to the dealer, and they looked at it and said there is definitely a problem. They called it a communication problem. Said there are 4 computers that all talk to each other, and it looks like one or more of them isn't talking.

I got a phone call about an hour or so after I dropped it off and they said that they hooked it up to diagnostics and verified that there was a problem, but they weren't sure yet how to proceed. He said they may have to replace the "entire unit", whatever that means. They are calling Acura, I guess a regional/national office to see if there is a known issue and see how they should proceed. I think its like colin has mentioned before about the sevice dept getting in touch with a regional acura rep to approve/disapprove/advise on certain service items....more info to follow, hopefully tomorrow. In the mean time, I've got an 06 TSX loaner to play with.....

I think you'd know if you had the same problem mine has.

No matter when or where you start your car and no matter what your settings are in the car, the nav screen ALWAYS come up in day mode. I HAVE TO hit the day/night button to get it to night mode. Thats basically it.

simply put, the way it is supposed to work, is when it is dark outside and you turn your headlights on, it should go into night mode automatically. There are some other influences to it, but thats the basic jist of it.

Oh and by the way, mine never worked correctly, so its not something that just popped up recently....

This may help - I was driving at night, and my screen was in night mode, as usual. I have never had the problem you described. BUT - when I adjusted the brightness of my dash lights (with the small knob in by the gas gauge) to full brightness, the navi screen went to day mode. I could not get it back to night mode without manually pushing the button. Dimming the dash lights back down did nothing. Next time I used the car, all was back to normal!
Maybe check your gauge brightness to see if it is all the way up. If so, it may not allow your navi screen to go into night mode.

I never got a great explanation as to exactly what the problem was, but basically they told me that one of the computers wasn't talking to the other computer. I suspect the computer that controls/monitors the headlight switch wasn't talking to the nav computer.

But anyway they fixed it and it is working as it should now I believe. I actually haven't tested all the conditions since I got it back, but I know that it goes into night mode when I turn the headlights on at night now. I'm a happy camper!

Plus I got to put an 06 TSX through its paces as my loaner car...
