My traded in TSX for RDX

I traded in my 05 TSX in Nov for a new RDX. They gave me a great deal on the new RDX, $29100 with like 12 miles on it and $1000+ of gimmies (all season mats, side door bumpers, mud flaps, rubber trunk mat, etc...)

They did try to get me on the TSX trade. KBB was showing around $17-18 k in trade in value. The dealer ofcourse, was offering $15- 15.5k. I need to mention I had the aero kit, deck spoiler, moon roof visor, 18" wheels, foglamps (not stock for a 2005), rubber trunk mat, etc. Which the salesguy said would not count for anything (yeah, okay!) They sure accounted for something when I bought the car.

I did get them up to $16k for trade in. Not bad. Then, soon after I saw the car on their lot for $23k. Wow I thought. But I know that the dealer needs to pad it for customer bargaining, dealer liability, etc..

Well, I just looked again to see if the car was still for sale or sold. It was still there, but for $16k! The same price they gave me for the trade. I might go back and re-buy it, but offer them $15k! lol

Just out of curiosity, how do you like the RDX compared to the TSX? I'm seriously contemplating the idea of trading my 2007 TSX Nav with 21k miles for a brand spankin new RDX. I haven't driven an RDX yet, but I've always really liked the looks of it. Further, after the crappy winters we've been having (Chicago), I really think that switching over to an RDX might not be such a bad idea.

So, I was just curious how much different driving the RDX vs. TSX is? What do you like better and worse about each of the vehicles? Does the RDX feel a lot more powerful than the TSX?

Well, I'd love to hear your thoughts!

Thanks!

Jeff

WOW! Sold already. Nice.

Well, I have to tell you, I really like the RDX over the TSX. It's faster, handles better, sh-awd is great, esp in the snow here in Colorado. We bought ours just in time for 4 snow falls. The TSX was liek a bar of soap in the bath tub. Not the RDX tho. What a champ. I like the style, the gagets and the handling. Cargo room is much much better, of course. We helped someone move, and also filled to the top with groceries from an Asian market in Denver. Damn thing held 400lbs of rice plus countless boxes of food.

The RDX rides higher, and gives you a feeling of protection. My TSX didnt have some of the tech goodies the RDX comes with, non-nav. Like bluetooth, mp3 jack, sh-awd, mp3 cd player, and turbo. The RDX is noticably faster.

However, I did get alot of head turning in my TSX. There were some nice add ons like rear deck spoiler, rims, painted calipers, etc. Blue leds were nice too. Always had comments for that.

Still, the RDX is a nice departure from a car, but really not that far off. More like the cool cousin.

What are you getting for gas mileage? That was the only/biggest turnoff of the RDX. If they could have somehow gotten 20/25, I would have bought it. I just saw all the people saying they got 17/20. With the TSX getting 23/31, that's a big difference.

I don't want to test drive the RDX because I'm afraid I'll do the same thing.

I see somewhere between 16-24 mpg. Depends. However, I never saw anywhere near 31 on my 05 TSX. I averaged about 23-25.

Still, 16-24 isn't anything to sneeze at for an suv. Sure, it's not 30+ mpg. If you want that, get a Civic. If you want an SUV, accept you will get lower mpg.

WW, that is a lot of rice. I came from a TSX as well, and the nearly 100lbs of torque difference is absolutely unbelievable. I was surprised by the fact that the RDX and TSX suspension feels so similar, which is fine for me, but a lot of people have said it is on the harsh side of taut. One thing i've noticed about handling is that the TSX is a little more forgiving when you enter a corner too hot compared to the RDX. In order to get the RDX to handle neutrally around a corner and not understeer, requires a slower entry, and then getting on the gas a lot earlier than the TSX to get the sh-awd to rotate the outside rear tire. So, the RDX definitely requires a different driving style around the corners compared to the TSX. When the outside rear tire rotates, it really does make the RDX handle brilliantly. It gives you a sense of confidence I thought I'd never have with a CUV in the corners.
