Lovin' my AWD
Lovin' my AWD
What a truly brutal brutal day here, blizzard conditions like we haven't seen yet this winter. Cars and trucks off the road everywhere, cops warning people to stay off the streets...period. And I got caught out in it and had to make my way home through the teeth of it. But snow tires + AWD got me through it all, even up the last steep hill to our subdivision with cars stalled out sideways across the slope. Using 1st gear only and traction control off (leaving it on just kills forward momentum too much for going uphill) and just bulled my away around them through the drifts on the side of the road for the last leg home. Not a day for 2wd, or even 4/awd drive and all season tires - they may work "most" of the time, but today was one of those days where it just would not cut it. Now just have to face clearing the driveway
The RDX does great with the snow tires. I tried it one year without the heavy duties all around and it had a tendency to swish the rear "to and fro" a little to much for my taste (3" powder). Haven't tried switching off the traction control yet. Maybe will take a detour next trip to Mt Bachelor.
For the majority of winter driving I leave it on, definitely helps with stability and that tail happiness in slippery conditions. It's only for the heavy slogging through deep snow that I find it kills power too much and stop you in your tracks. Turning it off allows you to keep that critical forward momentum in deep snow at slow speed, even with a wheel or two spinning.
It's cleared up some now from the way it was, couldn't see across the street when I first got home - the depth of snow against the RDX there now is the same as what I had to crawl through that last 1/4 mile uphill.

Another major storm on the way for Friday for here...you soon get sick of all that snow, well shovelling it anyway LOL. But as far as getting where I need to go, bring it on
