licence plate fasteners rusted

The licence plate nuts/screw fasteners on my RDX were really rusted, following a winter here in Mass. So went to a local auto supply and after getting the rep there to size them (Acura somehow has two sizes for one licence plate- go figure), they found the fit and gave them to me free of charge! And I didn't even buy anything else. Wow, talk about local business awesome customer service! I know it does not cost much, but still, if every customer expects that, it would not be great for them.

The only screw that is rusted on my RDX is the screw from gas cap covers... You will see it once you open the gas cover (from your left inside the body panel)

Actually, on my 2 year old '09 the rear plate screws are also rusted.

go underneath the rdx, lots of rust on some of the screws there - nothing to be worried about though

as for license plate holders, yes, +1, have them from the dealer, and they work perfect...

Just wondering if this is covered by warranty? I guess not? At the same time I was cleaning my 2k miles old rdx I already saw in the undercarriage 2 bolts/screwnuts on either side near my tires rusting. As well dunno if the piping as well as connection for the piping for the muffler was rusting already but it looked it. This may or may not be normal for Honda. And it's only been through a couple of car washes and downpours not even snow

Same here,,, i started noticing that when my car was still 1K miles only,,, bolt in the undercarriage and also the piping from the muffller.... i did mention all to the dealer a year ago and they told me its not covered due to the weather.... This is the main reason why i went to Ziebart... they put some rust protection and every year they do inspect my car for rust and re-spray protection if necessary.. Most people here think it's not necessary to add rust protection to your RDX since Acrura had one already but seing rust build up everyday is very annoying to me specially my car is always in my garage and always clean...

did a little more digging on this. even looked at the undercarriage of mdx's etc. seems like this is a predominant story for most cars - whether it be rdx, mdx, infiniti etc. the advantage goes to some german vehicles due to their aluminum parts - but as someone told me, aluminum doesnt rust but it does oxidize and turns to powder - so pick your poison LOL. i think, though i may be wrong, that honda cheapened out a bit on the non-essential parts (screws) but i doubt if you can really "rust proof" your vehicle entirely. after viewing and comparing, id take our acura easily... i even went underneath my aunt's audi and uncle's nissan 4x4 pickup truck... same result... all bolts are rusted...

Well, if one lives in places where snow is a norm during the winter months, salt will be the major component that is going to attack the metal parts of anything, especially cars travelling on roads. There is really nothing that is truly "rust-proof". Highly concentrated salt solutions are quite corrosive to metal, some will wear better and withstand longer the eventual attack on the metal. Unless you do a comprehensive underbody spray of rust-proof coating, meaning every pipe and bolts are covered, underbody rust-proofing can be an issue, allowing salt to get into the nook and crannies, not covered, and if you try to spray water to clean it out during a car wash, you may not be able to remove any collected salt in the hard to reach areas.

I put my car through the auto car wash with underbody spray, immediately right after snow has completed its down pour. So sometimes I get my car into a automatice car wash as often as 5-6 times a month. This will not eliminate the salt issue, but at least hopefully it helps to minimize it. And then in the spring time, right after the snow is deemed not to occur any more, I use my garden hose to thoroughly spray down the underside of the car.

If one is really concerned about these things, you might as well use ceramic coated exhaust pipes, and strong fiber-glass resin screws and bolts.

Amen to that! LOL. what's surprising is that my rdx hasnt even through a single spec of snow and it had rusted bolts -- turns out i dont look at undercarriages that often (heck why should i LOL).
