Led headlights

I have a 2011 rdx and want to replace my regular high beams (9005) with led lights. Am I going to have any problems? Will I have to get a decoder?

The high beams are also used as driving lights under lower power. Be sure the LEDs you buy are capable of running low power also.

Lightbulb

I get my high beam/day time running light LED's from EBAY and never had a problem with them. I make sure to get CREE LED chip set's those are by far the brightest and highest quality.

So this is plug and play installation? I like my HID headlights, what do you get replacing them with these? I’ve seen some videos that say do not replace HID with LED as the dispersion pattern is different. Just curious CSMoney. Thanks

I'm (clearly!) not CSMoney but I do have the
Amazon LED replacements Amazon LED replacements
recommended in this thread (https://acurazine.com/forums/1g-rdx-diy-faq-161/installed-new-led-drl-high-beams-my-rdx-976467/ and I have to say that while I like them just fine for DRLs as high beams they pretty much bite. Dispersion isn't well controlled and they don't have the useful throw of the stockers. Additionally, they're retained by friction-fit into an elastomeric grommet which doesn't do a great job of controlling the bulb orientation so even if you do get them oriented kinda ok they don't stay that way without periodic readjustment.

6/10; don't really recommend, not likely to buy again.

Do not touch the d2s stock hid bulbs in the projector housing they're high voltage you can't put led bulbs in there!!

Only change the drl/high beam not in the projector housing next to them they're 9005!!

You can also change the fog lamps they're h11 and are great as leds!!

Please if you have questions ask me i will help you i can send you bulb guides and links!!

I have taken off the whole front end to repair both headlights i know what i'm doing!!

Are there any DIY for front bumper removal / HID replacements?
I already purchased D2S Morimoto Elite HID Kit but would like to know if there is step by step on front bumper removal

Bumper removal is super easy (*super* easy). You can find (well, used to be able to, dunno if now...) the factory service manual online if you look, but the basic process is to pull out all of the body clips (across the top of the fascia in the engine department, and across the bottom of the fascia where it meets the engine shroud), remove the screws in the front wheelwells (I think 3x per side unless your plastic is busted up like mine) and a couple bolts near the ends of the radiator. Then you can basically unsnap it starting where the fascia meets the metal part of the front wheel wells. Once it's mostly unsnapped you'll have to unplug the foglights before you can remove it the rest of the way. It's light, but ungainly, and so bendy that it's good to have a helper. It's also good to have a pair of those body clip pliers (~$10 on A-zon). Takes about 12 minutes after you've done it once!

Installation is the reverse of removal.

Do these LED highbeams provide better night time backroads performance than halogens?

What other options are there?

Since the high beam housing was not designed for LED and are not even projectors, I would say most likely no, they won't provide any better performance. They will probably look better though and better match with the HID headlights.

I put a pair of Hella yellow in my '08. You don't get as much bounce back / glare in rain and they look good as DRLs.

Thanks. I guess I'll stick with the OEM halogens...

Thanks for the suggestion regarding the yellow, but I need the high beams to see farther and the yellow won't help with that.

I've has LED's in my high beam/DRL's for eight years now as well as in my fog lights. They are by far better than and trash halogen or not to bad HID. Also for the low beams you don't need a kit unless something other than the bulb is broken even then you need to get the specific parts from ebay. You will find them much cheaper. Remember the stock projectors are HID already. I will provide links if you're interested in my parts that I have used for years. Every light inside and outside my rdx is LED by the way.

Yellow actually pierces further than white, that's why night driving glasses are tinted yellow. They reduce glare and eye strain (ie: blue blocker glasses).
Currently, I'm adding a light bar that I yellow tinted for fog and open road night driving.

IME not at all. Better DRLS but less good brights.

They are so bright my iPhone camera can't deal with it.

Great, so anyone driving against you will be blinded

Can you provide output shots on dark roads, that would be a lot more valuable to determine usable light!

I had to wait for the sun to go down, and yes, oncoming traffic will be blinded, but I don't use highs with oncoming.
Lows, Highs, Highs + bar.
When I did a lot of open road night driving I installed a pair of aircraft landing lights. Could see clear over 1/4 mile.
