Leather Shift Knob

Some of the people responding to other posts love their leather shift knob - just thinking of getting one myself, but wondering if anyone out there has had any negative experience with them, or sees any reason for not getting one. What do you guys think?

It's a bauble. If you want one, get it. But it's not functional in any meaningful way.

It's a slightly nicer refined look, but honestly I don't think anyone that has ridden in my RDX has noticed the shift knob at all. If it makes you feel better about your vehicle, then get it! Just don't get it from the dealer, as they'll charge you too much for it. I bet they charge at least $50 just to install it.

There is a ring around the buttton that you pop off, then there are two release tabs under the boot that you squeeze and the boot lowers down exposing two screws. Undo the screws and the knob comes right off.

I like the feel of the leather shift knob. I had the rubber shift for a week before I changed it.

Grrr... I just installed my leather shift knob and ran into a problem. When I went to pull the boot back up flush against the new knob it didn't click into place. No amount of pulling and squeezing and pull/squeezing could get it to lock in place. The two knobs looked identical except for the material on the top so this isn't a wrong/part or fitment issue.

I played with it a while and couldn't get the tabs to lock so I finally just pulled it up and put the retaining clip back on. Due to the way that the retaining clip fits on, it ends up holding the boot up, but if you pull down on the boot, it exerts enough pressure on the retaining clip to pull the top clip loose (it doesn't fall off, but it has to be pushed back into place). This is not a good long term solution, though. Did I miss something in the install? Is there a trick to getting the boot to lock back up?

(In the meantime, I tried to adjust the tabs on the knob to see if they would mate with the boot better and broke one of them off so I'll probably need to order a new knob again anyway. D'oh!)

funny thing is, I thought mine was leather. But I really don't think anyone notices, as all the gadgets leave them wondering. Um, I guess I never noticed that. Not worth the worry for me, I guess.
