no way it wont be $45k. you can get a FX45 for that price. probably around $35k

Well this puts a little damper on my parade when I go pick up my RDX this weekend. I didn't think the EX's price would be so competitive (if rumours are true). But I wonder what the base model comes with....and the mileage. The G35 gets 19/28 mpg and this thing's gotta be at least 400 pounds heavier.

Exclamation infiniti shinfiniti...

I too saw the Infiniti EX earlier this year at the NY auto show (a few weeks after I purchased my RDX). I was very impressed with its interior; that white leather looks majestic(Infiniti interiors are always really nice). Was not very moved by the exterior though it looks like a bloted G35 sedan, with B9 tribeca tail lights which are horendous. As for the preformance we can all speculate all we want but until it comes out we will never know. All I know is that the RDX is faster than the FX35, and can hold its own against the sedan and coupe G35. Not to mention the handling, Infiniti can't touch Acuras SH-AWD... Over all I am extremly happy with my RDXturbo and glad to see the competion is trying to keep up with the jones'... Flame on...

Looks interesting. We are selling the wife's FX35, and are considering a replacement. The RDX caught my eye, but this...

Yuck!

Well I think the interior and the exterior of the RDX are quite a bit nicer looking than that infinity.

I think that the ex is actually kind of ugly. A Subarau 'inspired' rear and those gawd-awful front fenders and bulbous nose...
I like the RDX gauges much better and who would ever want white interior

I agree with the Tribeca-inspired booty but I think the front is slick. It doesn't look as bulbous as the FX and the "shoe-shape" just looks better on the EX to me. I loved the grille of the RDX prototype...which is probably why I think the production model has just a few too many lines (esp. the "X" shape between the grille and bumper).

Going by the measurements provided it is a bit longer, narrower and lower in height, plus the rear looks very angled like the FX 35. Take a good look at the interior detail of seats dash spacing with seats, door panel features, etc and it looks smaller to me.My take is it won't have as much passenger( including seat width) , cabin space and storage area behind the rear seat as the RDX.Engine sounds good though.Probably no more fuel efficient than a RDX.
Personally I won't wait for it till the end of the end of the year to see it.

Well - if I wanted a practical CUV, I could get the CRX or RAV4. This thing is just absolutely beautiful! Now the RDX may well enter the RL world. Hey, this is a really nice car, a little slow, a little plain, a little too techy - but it's nice and it's sort of prestigious - certainly more so than a a a a a a Toyota or Mazda?

I'd imagine Infiniti prices it directly against the RDX, maybe a slight premium. The difference is, Infiniti get's a nice profit on their offerings, while Acura subsidizes theirs. A $40k MSRP Acura can be had for 35 - 36k. A $40K Infiniti? - $38k at the end of the first year.

I'm stoked about this. I think it looks better than the concept even. Looks GREAT. I've been contemplating seriously an RDX, but this is really going to tempt me to wait. I've loved my TSX, but ready to move on, especially because of the stiff ride. And the rdx has still got that stiff ride. I hope the EX doesn't.

I will give the acura rdx some creidt for going after the bmw x3 in the perofrmance catagory. I personally feel the rdx is a better value than the bmw. But i must say, that the new infiniti ex35, has a good chance of being the class leader(if it drives close to the g35x + having an available sport package). You must give infiniti credit for improving their interiors and the performance, while keeping their prices very competitive. The ex35(IMO) is one hot CUV. The ex35 actually has some style, where the rdx is very consersitive and boring looking. The rdx, will still have the value equation along with more interior room, but the ex35 will have the hot new style( I predict the auto magazines will rave over this car), with great performance and will still undercut the bmw.

I don't like the exterior. Seems a little too "rounded" like the Lexus RX......

Nice features and gadgets though.

Not enough to bring me back to Infiniti.....

The steeply raked backlight cuts deeply into cargo room. As with the FX series, it's Infinity form-over-function again.

These cross-over utility vehicles are basically tall sport wagons. The higher CG should be offset by greater utility / interior space.

In the important category of interior volume with the rear seat in use (family vacation) look how the RDX compares to a car-height Audi A-4 Avant, and the present FX-35:

Volume in cubic feet

Front seat....51 A-4......54 RDX......57 FX

Rear seat.....39 A-4......47 RDX......46 FX

Cargo...........28 A-4......28 RDX......27 FX

Total...........118 A-4....129 RDX....130 FX

The RDX is the same length/weight as the Audi sport-wagon, but the increased height improves utility. The RDX has near identical volume as the FX in a package that's 250 lbs lighter and 8.4" shorter.

Will the EX have utility appropriate to it's category?

After seeing more pictures and reading first hand accounts of the interior, it appears the ex35 has a small interior including the rear seating and the cargo. If this is true, why even bother with the ex35, i would perfer the g35 sedan. I predict the rdx will out sell the ex35. I personally perfer the interior and exterior styling of the ex35 but I am dissapointed with the passanger room and even the cargo room. I'm not sure who infiniti is marketing this cuv too. The vw gti seems more practical!!

It's an Infinity, that ALONE means it will outsell the RDX, Just too many loyal customers.

Here is a thread with Infiniti enthusiasts discussion the EX. One of them got to go to an event where both cars were tested side-by-side . He concluded the RDX made more sense because it is much roomier. Personally, I'm excited about the EX, but I'll wait until I can actually see it in person.

I'm going to hold off on judgment until I can get my hands on the thing, IF the seat is terribly cramped with NO cargo space, This thing has no real purpose.

Comments from my wife on the Infinity EX35----

She saw this picture of the Infinity and said it looked like a baby carriage with big wheels.

To me it looks a little cartoonish.

You should wait before you pass judgment on the EX35, It hasn't even been released for sale yet.

The poster addresses a few concerns I had about the EX and makes me feel a little better about not waiting. When I test drove the Murano and FX last year I couldn't stand the poor visibility out the back...and the blind spots seemed a lot bigger than they had to be. Guess that's why Infiniti mounted all those cameras around the car eh? =)

I picked up my RDX on Saturday...work is keeping me from enjoying my new baby....but i'd agree with the poster about the X3. I was driving a 2005 X3 until now and it still the class leader in handling and performance. It's just too bad that it all comes at a cost of $10K or more...and the interior is just plain bland.

If I had the money though, it'd be X3 all the way....for now. I still haven't given the RDX enough time and it grows a on me a little bit every time I take it out for a spin.

Here's some spy video of the EX for those who want a better look:

EX35 on YouTube

Interior looks real purdy. Nice touches all around. Pricing sounds more X3 than RDX ($38k-$39k without nav according to the forum), so I guess you get what you pay for.

sidenote: the review is good but how many times can the guy say "we think this is going to be a real winner for Infiniti".

Or perhaps his tastes have simply become more refined over time, and he is not confusing flash with good design?

Yeah true. I showed one of my cousins the RDX last night and he was like "don't you already have this?" thinking it was the family '02 MDX. He only changed his mind later after I kicked him in the nuts.

wow, i'm impressed with the overall looks
the RDX does have more cargo room and is probably going to be cheaper than the EX, but it sure is an eye catcher
the interior looks nice too and the various cameras around it sounds intersting
i have an offer of "near" $31,000 for an '07 base but don't know if i should baragin more, take it or wait for the EX in december

I can't comment on the platform being dropped, but it would come as no surprise.

Keep in mind that Nissan reliability is all over the charts -- unlike Honda/Acura which has a very small range from low to high. The EX could be pretty good....or very bad.

Yep, as I have said elsewhere, the packaging on the FX sux.

If the EX is smaller than the RDX they will take themselves out of the family market. What I like about the RDX is that it is just big enough for family duty without being too big. If the EX is much smaller, things like car seats become a pain in the ass.

Plus Nissans have Renault cooties. Hence the scattershot reliability record.

The photos all look like it will be smaller than the RDX, It look closer to a Focus 5 door that to an SUV. My brother had a Murano, and that car is not really any roomier than the RDX from a practical point of view. It may have more cubic feet of space, ( I never checked ) but it is not in a place that you feel it when you sit in it. So if this is going to be a smaller offering from infinity...

I think it is going to be much more like a car than an SUV. I bet its going to be very quick, and will dominate the comparisons in the car rags. But as you are all familiar, they do have a tendency to ignore the practical aspects of cars when they review them. ( Reliability, resale, utility, dealer network )

But I think it looks sharp, and I am sure it will be a nice ride.

Agreed. Just-right size and the improved fuel economy over larger SUVs seems to hit the sweet spot. (I'm averaging 44% better economy than my V-8 Touareg had.)

The new VW Tiguan also looks like it won't have "family duty" volume -- not much more than the Rabbit it's based on. Makes one wonder what market studies are showing a desire for Sub-compact Performance CUVs.

most specs on the ex35 have been released for pre-order, including colors and size specs. Interesting is that the mpg is 16/23 for the AWD slight better (highway) than the RDX. I wonder if that bears out in the real world, given the g35 notoriously low mileage in the wild.
ALSO, calendar Oct 24 as NDA's will be lifted, and i believe pricing will be announced.

Good article. Says it will start in the mid-40's and go up to 55k, however, this is a Canadian article, so despite the looney being on fire and equivalent to our dollar, I'm sure the US will be less.

Interesting that people here don't like the style of it. As a former Integra and CL owner, I was all pumped about the RDX until I saw it in person. I thought it was fugly at first, but its grown on me a little since then. Too matrix like. A neighbor has one parked outside most days. Wound buying a used RX300 instead, but still looking to find something to replace my Dad's CL.
