I Thought the RDX was Quality!!!!

Last week, I was on my way to work on the Interstate on a sunny morning, no traffic in front of me when all of a sudden there is a sound eerily like a fistful of uncooked rice slamming against the windshield. I'm thinking: "what the heck?"

A quick scan of my windshield shows a couple of dozen tiny little holes scattered across the windshield. I'm thinking, what the heck hit me? Is birdshit hard as pebbles?

I get to work, park and examine the windshield. The exterior windshield is smooth as a baby's ass. The "punctures" did not happen from the outside. So recheck the inside windshield. Smooth as butter. The tiny, puncture, about the size of a ball point pen tip, are on the interior of the glass! The friggin' glass is imploding!

What kind of crap does Acura sell? As I first time Acura buyer, I'm not impressed. Acura quality is on shaky ground. This wouldn't happen to a Nissan or GM product!!!

So you got a bad windshield....that's what the warranty is for.

I haven't seen any other posters report this problem so it doesn't seem like the defect is a reoccurring problem. Most likely just a bad piece of glass. Sh*t happens. Get it fixed and get on with your life.

And more importantly, Acura doesn't make the glass. I believe PPG provides the OEM glass for Acura vehicles. So you should really be complaining about their product quality, if anything.

As for other brands....they don't make their glass either. In fact, I'm sure PPG provides several carmakers with OEM glass. So claiming that GM or Nissan is higher quality because of a 3rd party glassmaker is about the most ridiculous thing I've ever heard.

Right. So the one problem you've had with your own windshield tells us all that Acura quality is on shakey ground.

I've got 80,000 miles on my TSX without any major problems. And, my experience does not seem unusual since Consumer Reports rates nearly every Acura at the top of it's respective category in terms of reliability.

I am very sorry you had a problem but it is a bit silly to assume that your situation gives us information about an entire car line.

Frankly, any poster who tries to argue that Acura reliability and quality control is inferior to GM, is not to be taken seriously.

Never mind that GM gets their glass from PPG too.

As does BMW, Toyota, Chrysler, Ford and Porsche.

Are you trying to tell me that Porsche and BMW are also on shaky ground?

Before posting, a little research goes a long way. Here's an interesting note from 2005:

"About 17,815 Buick Raniers, Chevrolet Trailblazers, GMC Envoys and Isuzu Ascenders from the 2005 model year are being recalled due to the possibility of their windshields falling in a crash."

I'd be a lot more concerned about GM's issue than a single case of an Acura windshield having a defect.

the glass on my tl has cracked a few times when it was hit by stones ... but other than that the car is bullet proof. I dont think the type of glass the car has reflects anythingn about the quality of the overall car

Yeah, there was a chip in my windshield, I had it filled and it's fine. Honda doesn't make it's own glass. Not their fault.

I have 100k + on my TSX and it's running beautifully. My wife's Volvo S40 is not as reliable. We've had about 3 or 4 recalls on everything from the computer messing up and not having hot air in the car, this made for a terrible trip from Toronto to Waterloo and back during a cold damp spell.

From a friend that works in an Acura garage, there are no major problems. He says it's just expensive to maintain.

I"m also thinking of a Toyota Highlander Hybrid, but again these are pricey to repair if anything happens. So far people have had only good things with regards to quality of vehicles.

The crack in the windshield is ajust a conincidence, you should not write off your RDX because of that.

10,000 miles and the windshield begins to implode--slowly. Hmmmm. Acura quality? And it's not a crack! It's tiny holes about the diameter of a pencil tip. Twice I've heard it go "pop" while driving. And don't make excuses! Acura didn't make the tires either, but they selected them. That makes the company responsible. The company needs to stand behind its product!

I'll find out on Monday if they do.

You haven't even gone to the dealer to see it they will replace it and you're claiming they need to stand behind their product? Wow. Find out if they will first before making an idiotic comment like that.

Cry cry cry. The RDX sucks, GM is the god of all vehicles.

Do us all a favor, sell you god damn car and never come back here. I swear I've punched two year olds in the face that cried less than you do on an average day.

First you say:

"all of a sudden there is a sound eerily like a fistful of uncooked rice slamming against the windshield"

Then you say:

"Twice I've heard it go "pop" while driving."

So which is it? You can't even stick to our own lame story.

You know, the original post is entirely reasonable. You had an issue with your car. That is why we have this forum. But the last paragraph is entirely uncalled for. Instead of insulting Acura and making clownish claims like GM has better quality, you should just state your problem, ask if anyone has similar issues, and let us know how the repair service goes. But every single post by Plainsman ends the exact same way "but my Saturn has a DRL toggle" or "but my Saturn doesn't have rust on the tailpipe". As if anyone here gives a sh*t about Saturn. So please, Plainsman, stick to the issue at hand and reserve your GM commentary for someone who cares....like maybe a GM forum where they'd be thrilled to hear how wonderful their product is.

Just in case I run into this problem I took all the necessary precautions. I kicked out my windshield immediately so I don't have to worry about this problem anymore.

Plainsman...thanks for letting us know. Now that I have no windsheild on my car I no longer need to worry about that problem.

It's a good thing it's the beginning of summer here in Boston or this would have been a bad move.

"After buying my new daily commuter (Acura RDX) and registering on an Acura message board, I have to say that Saturn buyers as reflected by the people on this board are good, decent people. This was my first purchase of an "upscale" brand. It might be my last.

Acura owners act like a bunch of snobs. My God, most of them seem to look down their noses at anything that isn't an Acura (or Honda), Lexus, Infiniti, BMW or Mercedes. They couldn't understan d why anyone would prefer an Outlook over an Acura MDX. I set them straight, but what a bunch of snobs!

I don't understand people who think their ***** doesn't stink because they own a certain brand of automobile."

Maybe his windshield broke. I doubt that any car is problem free. I would worry if several people replied that they had a problem as well.
Perhaps he just enjoys posting and then watching everyone boil over, so he can write pithy replies.

BTW, I like the Outlook as well.
But I buy Hondas because I like the overall quality, and find the the ergonomic design is generaly pleasing year into ownership. And they usually hold their value extremely well. No matter what the P man says, Saturn cannot make that claim.

Plainsman is a troll.

It's as simple as that.

Blog Troll:

1.(n) -A pathetic and moronic person who maintains a blog with an unhealthy obsessive-compulsive drive, especially angsty goths (sorry to all the likeable goths out there). The content of their blogs usually includes events that no sane person would care about. Here's sample of what a blog troll might write on their blog:
"today, I ate a sanwich. It bad - it was just ok, mediocre, I guess you could call it. After that I read a few chapters out of an Anne Rice book and was deeply moved by her erotic descriptions of gay vampires fornicating. <Insert narciccistic remark here>. Then I took a nap.

2.(n) -A depraved individual who sits in front of a computer all day and posts flames of an idiotic or pseudo-intellectual nature on public forums and private websites. Many of these people actually become emotional about what is said on the afore-said mediums and feel it is their duty to punish those who disagree with them. They too may pursue this object in an obsessive-compulsive manner.

what is there to argue about? Acura is a better name than Saturn, period. Its a luxary brand, it is not your typical Honda. To me Acura/Lexus/Infinity are in the same category. Saturn would be more like a Ford, or Hyndyi kind of crap

you know what you are right, this does not reflect everyone's opinion. It instead reflects the majority of drivers, reviewers, etc. So while there might be a few nutcases that believe their saturn is special, they should quit sharing their opinion on other brands boards since nobody wants to hear their crap.

Based on the quotations I believe he was quoting what the plainsman had said in a prior post (perhaps in a different topic) and the last sentence was his own.

of all things to promote...Saturn? Seriously? From experience (and I've owned a LOT of different cars over the past 10 years)...Saturn was the WORST car I've ever had and driven. Complete pieces of crap nevermind the god-awful styling that's just way too much of an American-car trademark. :-\

But to each their own.
