Exclamation How do Fuel Pump and Transfer Unit work together?

I have an Acura RDX 2008. The engine turns on for like 2 seconds and stops. I opened the carpet in the back. On the left was the Fuel Pump Module, on the right the Fuel Transfer Unit. When trying to start the car, the module on the left vibrates and makes a humming noise for a few seconds, and the right transfer unit doesn't vibrate and is completely silent. I took of the hoses from the module, I started the car, and it wasn't pumping fuel. The transfer unit is still silent. Since the module wasn't pumping fuel, does it mean that the transfer unit doesn't work? Do they even work together? Thanks for any help.
