Highway kms/miles

Hey guys. First time poster here. I am a current owner of an 06 RSX-S, however I will be starting a job in July where I will be doing a lot of highway driving. While I enjoy the RSX, I am looking for something a little more practical and safer, especially for driving Canadian highways in the winter.

I am just wondering if anyone out there does a majority of their driving on the highway, and how many km/miles you are getting to a tank. I guess speed would matter as well (i.e., are you getting 650km to a tank driving on avg 110-120 km/hr).

I'm just trying to get an idea how much gas I may burn in the run a year. I know the RDX doesn't have "optimal" mileage and requires premium fuel compared to other SUVs on the market, but I am willing to compromise for its quality and safety. Thanks for any help.

ummm....the RDX is def not going to be your highway cruiser. your best bet for mpg on avg will prob be 22, and thats the high side, maybe 23-25 would be an absolute push. but keep in mind, 24 is OPTIMAL and alot of us dont see it. if you are litteraly doing straight highway, your results will be decent, but any city will bring it down, quick.

im at about 80 highway 20 city right now and cant crack 260miles to a fill up. my highway trip is routine, 3 times a week, 70 miles round trip, flat road. could be winter gas, but, if you want to buy on the side of caution, do not expect the high range of mpg in this car.

on a side note, a while ago, prob last spring, my truck went thru a phase of 28mpgs or so for about 2 or 3 tanks. i have never seen that again since.

Hi there and welcome to our neck of the woods....
MY experience is that the RDX gets around 300miles per tank...I try to not go over that before refueling.
The best mileage that I have gotten was 23 (maybe 24) driving no faster than 70mph.
The RDX is NOT a car for long trips, the tight suspension and firm seats start to get the best out of you after 3 hours of driving.
If I may put my two cents, go for something more economical and better suited for HWY traveling (softer suspension)....If Acura is where you want to stay, then you may want to look at the previous gen MDX, gas mileage is about the same.....

I am interested in the not for long trips comment. I am looking for a larger vehicle than the '03 CL-S I am driving now.

Last couple of long trips we took were in my wife's IS250 AWD.

I took a 30 minute test drive of RDX and felt the seats to be more comfortable than my CL and WAY more comfortable that the IS.
Can't see how suspension could be any stiffer than IS or CL, so any feedback would be appreciated.

I was considering a TSX, however, I am leaning towards something with AWD to help me get through the winters.

As far as distance, a majority of my trips would be under 1.5 to 2 hrs each way. Thanks for all the comments so far.

Since you asked...I have only taken one long trip in my RDX...from CT to Washington DC....a good 350 miles....I have 19" wheels, so, that may have helped to make the ride stiffer....the seats are firm and offer great support, but after sitting in them for four hours your back starts to feel the pain....this, together with the stiff suspension made for an uncomfortable trip....My other car is a Saab, and if you know or have heard anything about them, you must know that they have what are probably the best seats out there....so I may be been bias, but didn't like the long trip...
I have since installed 18" wheels and that has improved the ride a lot, but have yet to take a long road trip on it....longer than a couple of hours that is....

Subaru?
Also, remember that the CRV shares the same platform....not the same car, but for that kind of driving it may be worth it...

yea was gonna say that too, CRV is prob the better choice here.

other poster about stiff suspension: id say the character of the RDX's suspension is different in that the ride is stiff, but it handles everything else in the road like an iron board, there is no give, there is no absorbtion, there is no refinement it its travel...its harsh, stiff, and LOUD....many other sports sedans have a stiff suspension yet remain refined. Most recently i took my fams 6 series out, stiff as hell, but for as low as it is and for the giantness of the rims, it delivered a ride that left me wondering my suv felt worse than a sports sedan coupe.

Acura got the sports side of the suspension down, but def not the ride quality.

as far as the RDX seats...i think they are fantastic, no complaints here, many passengers say the same things, its aactually one of the first things they comment on, of how "comfortable" they are

i got stuck coming home in a blizzard in Dec, was in the car for over 7 hrs, no complaints other than the normal need for stretching. Ill take the RDX seats in any vehicle, its one of the things i like the most

The suspension is entirely fine on highway driving from my experience and I find it quite confortable unless you live in an area where your highways have potholes. In the city can be a different story though.

22-23 mpg is about the norm for me driving 75. If you drive 65 with no AC you might eek out 24.

I used to have a Forester with a 5 speed, I got similar mileage. I could get 25 mpg in stock form though, but with a new turbo, 23.

I like the seating. Last summer I did 15 hours of driving in 2 days on highways, with no back problem. The best mileage I got was 8.5 L/ 100km (IIRC), or 27.7mpg. That was between Quebec and Montreal, driving 110km/h.

I find the RDX very comfortable.

Wow. 27.7.

Even when I reset my economy and drive at 90-100 km/h (~55-60 mph), I might be able to get 25-26 mpg (A/C off, cruise set, fairly flat ground).

I drive several highways in Canada (Toronto) on a daily basis averaging about 100km per day. I take the QEW/427/401 and generally 50km is averaging 60km/h and the other 50k is doing about 100km/h.

I get about 11-13km/L.

Practical for winter/snow driving = RDX and CR-V.

Passive Safety; 5 Star and Top Safety Pick = RDX and CR-V.

Comfort; Leather, heated seats, GPS Nav, Premium Sound = RDX and CR-V-EX-L.

Sporty handling, Power, Active Safety, Accident avoidance = RDX

Extended trip ride quality = CR-V-EX-L

Highway fuel economy @ 68 mph: RDX = 25 mpg, CR-V = 30 mpg.

Purchase price = CRV-EX-L (about 5000 less).

Cool factor = RDX

RDX scores 5, CR-V-EX-L scores 6.

It depends on how much you are willing to compromise. Coming from an RSX you may enjoy the RDX driving dynamics and accept the ride like an enthusiast driver.

But the CR-V will save you 80 gallons over 12000 annual highway miles.

If you have clients in the car, they will be more impressed with the RDX.....until they spill their lattes.

Practical says CRV-EX-L......but I would go RDX (and get 'em drinking lids).

I do a mix of highway and city. Maybe 40% highway and 60% city. I can get 450-500kms per tank. Avg speed for city is 60km/h and Highway is 100-110km/h.

Or you can believe ^this guy and the rest of the people that get something between 23-25 tops.

Unless the first guy was driving downhill and with tail wind, there is no way that the RDX will achieve 27mpg.....and in the event that it did, you should NOT expect to get that kind of mileage in your car...

Maybe I was driving with a tail wind. Or maybe my display is wrong... the mileage was showing 8.5 on the display. However, I've never gotten that mileage again. On a flat highway, I usually get 9.0 - 9.2 L/100 km.

I get about 22mpg highway if I am on Interstate doing 75-80mph. Issue is the turbo is kicking in a bit to keep the speed up. At 65 or less on highways I can get about 24mpg(turbo doesnt kick in).

So if mpg is the main thing I would look at another car. If you can live with the mpg hit then the rdx is a fun car.

as most have said, 22-23 mpg at 70mph, probably a little bit more at 60.

My mileage compares with most others on this site. Upper 60's mph --you can hit 24 mpg. If you're at 75 and above--probably under 22 mpg. But the seats are very comfortable. I went to the 2008 RDX from the 2006 TSX (which was a great car in every way--except no AWD). Longer trips are not a problem in the RDX (I have the lumbar at full throttle). I keep the tires at 35 psi. I wanted the additional carrying capacity. I've made my peace with the stiffer ride--but recognize it's a great handling vehicle. I wish it had a bit less road noise. But again--this is a sporty suv, not the average suburban ride. My RDX is black/black---and I really enjoy giving it the fancy spit shine with Griot products, and some Klasse thrown in.

suprised noone mentioned the SH-AWD TL that is out, similar price range as a new RDX better mileage, V6 not turbo 4, and the AWD. Plus more features (power window down, etc)

I think a lot depends on traffic conditions. I got 8.8 L/100 km (26.6 mpg)today driving home from Toronto to Whitby. I filled up just before I left the city and most of my drive was either 70 km/h or 90 km/h with light traffic and minimal stopping/accelerating. It is not unusual for me to get 9.8-10 but I've never gotten this low. This car can get quite good mileage, but it really depends on the driving conditions. It's the acceleration that really kills the mileage.

I have averaged 12.3 L/100 km (19 mpg) over my last 10,000 km which I think is pretty normal.

What do you mean "power window down" is an added feature on the TL over the RDX? The RDX has power up and power down.
