HID wiring

2012 RDX.

Have the old condensation issue with the RH headlight. Ordered a used one off of ebay, but the PO broke the bulb connector so it won't stay on. Has anyone swapped the HID harness inside the headlight? Seems pretty tight and not much room to get the ballast connector through. It appears that maybe someone cut the original harness and ran a new one? Maybe I'll just return it and look for another one.

find a new igniter, just not OEM because that pricing is outrageous.. you dont want to be cutting splicing high voltage lines like HID.. unless electrical fires are a passion of yours.

heres another cheaper options: https://www.rockauto.com/en/catalog/...+igniter,13030

The question is, how hard is it to replace the igniter?

Thanks to @mistercharisma, just found this from a previous thread which answers my question Help/tips on replacing 2011 RDX headlight ballast? - AcuraZine - Acura Enthusiast Community
  • Once you have the right part, threading the igniter is a huge pain. The headlight does not appear to come apart and threading it through requires long, slim fingers, a great deal of patience, and a little luck. It can be done, but I can see why a mechanic might charge a ton for this entire endeavor. OR they might just give up and tell you you need a new headlight unit. But yes, it is possible to do and if the igniter is your only problem, you can fix it for 50 bucks.
  • Good luck and eff Acura for making this such a needlessly difficult problem.

Drop the bumper and take the whole assembly out and you should be able to easily assess and replace the igniter once the ballast is out too.

or just pay someone

Oh, I did. I pulled the bumper, headlight, installed the new (used) headlight, then started troubleshooting when it didn't work. Surprisingly easy to pull the bumper off, much easier than on my Audi. I can't believe people who try and do this with the headlight still in the car.

I wish new headlights weren't $600.
