headlight question
headlight question
Just checking to see if my headlights are out of allignment. When I pull the car up to my garage with the doors closed, the driver's side is higher then the passenger's side on high beam. But on low beam, the "light line" is askew (lower on the passenger side.) Not a straight line.

Uneven HID Light Profile
There is a vertical adjustment for the HIDs, but it moves the entire uneven light line together for each lamp. Not sure about the high beams - I would guess they have one too.
Hmmm....Mickie's does sound out of alignment to me. I was told about the uneven line when I bought the car - but I thought it was supposed to be higher on the PASSENGER'S side. The idea being that you light more of the road in front of you and minimize blinding cars in the oncoming lane. Maybe I'm wrong?

Yes, the driver's side should be lit lower than the passenger's side, not the other way around. And each light should have a "jaggy" in its horizontal cutoff, kind of like this:
Code:
________ _______/
Oh thanks, yes, Mike and Flar, I ment to say they were higher on the passenger's side with low beams. I never noticed that until recently. You guys are awesome, thanks so much. I was really worried that I had to replace the passenger's lamp, or have that all reset.
It looks just like you spelled it out flar.

Yeah....I gotta say, I have mixed feelings about the HIDs. This is my first set, and while the brightness, color and clarity are AWESOME, that hard line is extremely disturbing and hard to get used to. At least with halogens there's some flood effect and the light fades out slowly. With the HIDs, I always feel like I'm overdriving them...

^^^ Yes, Plus on rolling or undulating roads, people are prone to flash you thinking your lights are on high beam…as it is bright to them as the road has caused your low beam to appear as a high setting would…
A lot of the higher end cars pair HIDs with an auto-leveling feature that keeps them from popping up. Some are slow and only really help if you've packed a heavy trunk on a trip. Others are a little faster, but I'm not sure even the fastest really can deal with cresting a hill or hitting a bump. The RDX has no auto-leveling feature.
Another factor going against the RDX wrt HIDs is that it is an SUV and so the headlamps sit higher off the ground. To keep them from shining in anyone's eyes they have to have a fairly aggressive downward tilt. You can see this on the center concrete divider on a highway at night if you have such things on your highways. Otherwise, drive up parallel to a building some night and see how the cutoff line hits the wall. It will definitely slope towards the ground so it doesn't take much to over-drive the low beams.
