Has anyone compared these?

Im looking a the Rdx, Mdx, Cx-9, Mkx and Veracruz.

I dont care for the third row in any of these, but I need the cargo space for shopping/trips etc.

My initial impressions of the Rdx was that it looked very classy, and the interior had a very nice design to it, the audio was amazing but the ride, and throttle response needed improvement. Is there like a reflash or something that possibly could not have been done for the Rdx that would improve throttle/turbo lag? the dealer said they could swap out the tires for some comftortread Goodyears that would improve the ride to my liking, and im due to test drive a Rdx with them on Friday.

The Mdx was extremely nice, it had enough space, the interior design was impressive, and it felt rock solid, the ride was firm but not jarring and the V6 was similar to my Xc90, responsive, but a weak when pulling away from a stop, when it got on its feet the power was very nice, there was no throttle lag to speak of in the Mdx.

The Veracruz was surprising, the interior was plush and the entire feel of it is relaxed, the price tag and touch screen navi were the best. The only thing I didnt like was the bland exterior, and the unknown long term reliability of the Veracruz.

The Cx-9 was very nice, the throttle response was just like the Mdx/Xc90, responsive, but it had a better pull off the line, not substantially better but it was a little better, the interior wasn't as luxurious as the Veracruz or Mdx, but it was simple in design like the Veracruz with nice fit and finish, but it was really lacking in cubbys for keys and things like that. the ride with the 20 inch wheels was a little too firm on some surfaces, and firmer than the other Cx-9's with 18 inch wheels, so i might swap them out for the 18's.

because Im deadlocked between all of these contenders, Im asking you all for your thoughts, what you would pick if you needed something with cargo space, luxury, and a good responsive drive, with a reasonable price tag, the Mdx with the navi was a little expensive, so I would be looking at a base, my price cap is 40 grand.

Thanks.

The RDX is the boy-racer who got a good job and had to lose the big wing and potato launcher exhaust can.

Those other vehicles are variations on Mom's mall-taxi.

I don't think you are ever going to be happy with the RDX. Get the MDX or the Veracruz

lol...now u start a thread comparing what u just talked down. decent.

guy, either get an MDX or get lost. the RDX and MDX are nothing alike.... RDX couldnt be more different than a CX-9 (garbage reliability, along with the CX-7) and a Verecruz

Two of my neighbors traded in their minivans for Cx-9's and couldnt be any happier. Its great ride but I dont want to short change myself by not exploring my options. Im test driving a Mkx tomorrow, anyone have experience with one of those? The Edge is nice, but the interior is cheap, which is why I hope the Mkx is better.

You complain about the throttle on the RDX but you're hopeful for the MKX? That thing is a fat tank that crawls to 60.

Ford = pig
Lincoln = lipstick on a pig

Just make sure you really, really, really like the MKX because you'll never be able to sell it.

I don't think an RDX will make you happy, but I wouldn't think the Mazdas would either.

Have you considered an X3? It might be a touch higher in your budget, but you'll probably be much happier with it. Wonderful inline 6, nice styling, better suspension for real-world driving.

The MKX is 670 pounds heavier than an RDX -- that's 3 football linemen riding along everywhere you go.

Not only does it handle like a pig, but it has about the longest 60-0 stopping distance in the class. Seventeen feet longer than the RDX -- that's the stretch Town and Country it would plow into after the RDX is stopped.

Then there's the product support of the Blue Oval -- with one foot in the grave and the other on a banana peel.

Throttle response has nothing to do with how fast a car is. You are aware of that right?

I said I was hoping for the Mkx to have a nicer interior.. and thats all I said.
Acura touted the Rdx to be a "luxury crossover", which is why I am looking at it.
Im not worried about resale value, its on my mind but it wont be a deciding factor in my purchase. none of these have been instant ! gotta have it cars which is why Im taking my time to choose something i want to keep for 4 years.
The X3 sounds pretty good, saw one in red today that looked pretty nice, changed my opinion on the looks, it looks good in red but ugly in other colors, i'll drive one after the Mkx.
Thanks.

Funny thing is looking at consumer reports, they consider the CX-9 and RDX to both be mid sized SUVs. They liked the MDX the best out of all of them you are considering. All of them were considered to be upper middle of the pack except for the MKX which was lower middle of the pack. The CX-9 was considered Fair for reliability and should not be lumped in as exactly like the CX-7, which has had more than its fair share of problems. From my experience with lots of Mazdas including our CX-7, Mazda just seems to like to have the consumer help them work the bugs out rather than spending on QC. I drove the CX-9 before I got my RDX and loved it. However, I wasn't in need of a large 7 passenger SUV, so I opted for the RDX. I wouldn't even consider the MKX, it is a mediocre vehicle.

If you need 7 passenger seating, considere the MDX or CX-9. The jury isn't totally out on the Hyundai in terms of reliability and frankly it is kind of a cush mobile from a ride perspective. The MDX and CX-9 drive and handle great. The CX-9 is a MUCH better value than the MDX for the money, but the MDX is definately nicer and has more amenities. Opt for the RDX if you don't need that extra girth.

Do you want performance or practicality? RDX is the best-performing car of the bunch by far, but you lose a lot of rear seat space and cargo room compared to your other selections. Among the other three, the MDX is BY FAR the best car, which it should be because it costs BY FAR the most. I mean, CX-9 starts at $31K, Veracruz starts at $27K, and MDX starts at $41K.

I'd personally eliminate the Mazda from contention and focus on price - do you want to save a ton of money and get the Hyundai, or do you want to drive a much better car and get the MDX?

(to others, I realize that there's a strong possibility that I'm responding to a prankster, because it's hard to believe that anybody could ever have to make the choice between a Veracruz and an MDX).

I think it depends on price, size and what type of vehicle you are looking for. If you want the cheapest, go with the Hyundai. The Hyundai is a decent vehicle but is more of a cushy ride. If you want a little sportier, go with the Mazda. Sportier and the nicest of the bunch, MDX. All three of these are 7 passenger vehicles with third row seating. If you don't need the size of any of these, the RDX is by far the smallest vehicle being considered by the OP. Want to compare the RDX to a direct competitor? Drive an X3, but it will cost you $10k more than the RDX. Can't reccomend the CX-7.

As far as the CX-9, in my opinion and that of Motor Trend, the CX-9 trumps the Hyundai hands down and gives the MDX a run for its money in terms of performance. It is very nice inside, but not quite MDX nice.

Theres a reason why the MDX is at the top of its class, and also price (but when comparing it to the X5...its a bargain in its own right) because its reliability, feature set, and resale no competitor has the ability to match.

why you would compare an RDX to any of the vehicles listed, that remains to be figured out

Well, I was going to start a new thread asking for opinions on whether I should purchase a Honda Odyssey or Smart Car. Thoughts?

Well, it's going to be a little tight seating seven in the Smart Car.

On the other hand, you probably can't pull nose-in to a parallel parking space with the Odyssey.

I'd recommend you find a good compromise between the two. Have you considered a Hummer H1?
