has anyone applied the rear applique?

i ordered the wheel lock set and for shats and giggles, i ordered the rear applique. i didnt realize that all it is is a big ass 54 dollar sticker that you slap on the rear fender. the instructions slightly throw me off, because it seems like the applique is supposed to be more of a solid object, as opposed to the floppy jaloppy sticker that i actually got in my shipment.

with that said, for those who have put this on their rear fender, is it a walk in the park, or does it involve to some degree rocket science?

thanks!

Mine was applied by the dealer and it is already starting to peel off at the edges.

I have a clear bra on my S2000. I think it is the same material. I was going to get some for some areas on the front and do the area the applique is designed for. It will definitely cut down on scratches but $54 is pretty high for what it is. My clearbra is not peeling at all. wash wax as normal.

I got it on mine to protect the rear bumper from the doggie toe nails.

It's installed by the people who install the clear bra protector stuff on the front - which is outsourced.

I noticed mine is trying to come up on the side - an area of about half an inch.

I told the dealer so they are going to fix it when I bring it back in for the clear bra stuff to be installed next Monday...I would suggest having them install it...that way you won't have to worry about getting it to stick/stay!

yeah, thats the sort of the same reason why i got the applique - to protect the rear fender where the hatch is from scratches....plus the RDX decal looks slick. i wonder how much it would cost for the dealer to install this for me....eventhough a part of me would much rather do it myself...

Did you try to install it yet? My dealer quoted about $100 for it with installation. I'm wondering if it is worth $50 to have them do it.

I put mine on myself. I didn't use any "fluid". I was just careful and put it on like it was a sticker. Draped it on at the center and laid down each side, then spread it out with the blue deal. It came out fine. It's been on for a week and no bubbles or peel backs.

Obviously, just make sure the surface is clean before applying

thanks for the input. after you applied it, did you let it sit for the day? ie- did you not drive the car around and just let it 'cure'?

I bought mine with the cargo liner. I don't leave it in all the time, just when I plan to carry something heavy or dirty. It has a flap that folds out over the rear bumper for loading and unloading.

I put it on around 3pm, and did not drive the car until the next morning. It's been fine since installation.

Thanks for the update. What was the "fluid" supposed to do? Clean the bumper or is it additional adhesive?

Its a cheap sticker. I thought it was a thin metal strip but it is a rolled up sticker. I had it on and cleaned the area with water and than alcohol before applying and it still came up at the edges after two days. It is not worth the money IMHO.

The dealer put mine on. They did a crap job. All bubbly and retarded looking. They told me they ordered another one to replace it for me, and that they would call when it was ready. Guess I wont hold my breath, since that was over a month ago.

After all these posts I'm seriously considering just buying the cargo liner. It doesn't sound like the applique offers that much protection and I'm more interested in not scratching the bumper than I am how it looks. Plus if it started peeling around the edges right away it would drive me nuts

is it me or does this look like false advertisement? in the acura site's picture or anyother picture used for sale... that whole piece looks chrome and not matching the paint color and the letters RDX look white/silver/chrome... meanwhile this sticker we are putting on is black.....

The fluid is supposed to activate the adhesive which is on the "sticker". It is the same type of adhesive as on window tint. If you put it on dry, don't be surprised if it peels up over time. If put on properly, it will stick VERY strong. The fluid is nothing more than water with a very tiny bit of soap in it. For example, in a stanard size spray bottle, I filled it up full of water and put like 5 drops of dishwashing soap in it.

I too put it on to protect against my dogs nails jumping in and out of the tailgate. I also have the cargo liner which I can drape over the edge for the same reason.
