Gawd, the RDX is Slow!!!

What's the world coming to? I almost got whipped today by a Honda Odyssey! A friggin' minivan! I had my RDX FLOORED and this Odyssey was pulling away from me! How embarrassing is that?

I bought this thing over a Land Rover LR2, an X3, and a Saturn Vue Redline because it was the fastest! I guess it's not fast enough. The only reason I didn't lose is because the Odyssey's top end wasn't there, but in acceleration from say 60 to 120, the sumbitch was beating me! What do they put in those Odyssey minivans?

The one small ute that I know is faster is the Subaru Forester XT with the turbo. It's in the mid-5's, which is a lot faster than the RDX, which shows up no better than 6.5, 0 to 60, in the best runs. At least the 2008 Forester XT was that fast. I can't say the same for the new redesigned 2009, bigger, fatter version.

Anyway, just thought I'd share my frustrations. Man that was humbling. And infuriating to know a doggone minivan - A FRIGGIN' MINIVAN! - just might be able to take an RDX.

LOL

I dunno what you're smokin' "Theplainsman"... but here's the stats:

07 odyssey - 0-60 8.5 second 244HP 3.5L v6 4300LB+

07 RDX - 0-60 fastest 6.5second, slowest 7 second 240HP turbo 4 4000LB

Please don't tell me this is YOUR way of bashing on the RDX again...

Maybe your saturn has a better chance?

Maybe...

It's not that he doesn't like the RDX. it's that the RDX rejects HIM as owner!
So that'll explain why he lost. The RDX said

It takes a bit of time for the turbo to start breathing and the transmission to kick down. That's the good thing about a decent sized v6. Great throttle response - no drama, just power.

On a serious note...Plainsman, do you realize that coming to an Acura Forum to critisize one of their cars (to a place full of fans) is like going to a trailer park screaming that Walmart sucks....You are entitled to your opinion, but please, please, unless is something productive, keep it to yourself, you will do us all a favor and also to you. I don't think that you make anybody here mad, they all think you are an idiot...If that was your goal, you failed.
Even if the RDX was slower than the oddisey, who cares.....

Put it this way, this would not have happened to my Altima V6. O to 60 the RDX is plenty quick. Maybe quicker than my Alty. But 60 to 130 my Alty smokes it. That bothers me. I think my RDX should be better.

If I didn't have kids in college, I'd have my GT-R on order. 3.3 secs to 60 is serious business.

This is my first turbo. Actually, this is my first four cylinder vehicle. It does feel like it's lacking a little muscle. My V6 Alty doesn't take any time to breathe. I tighten my calf muscle and it just goes. Hardly any pressure on the accelerator.

Ever drive a 300C with the Hemi and floor it? I guess I'm not a 4 cylinder guy.

100% driver error...but we already know you're not too bright.

I've beaten a BMW 325i...not that I'm much of a racer. So you're definitely doing it wrong.

i understand the whole thread, i feel you, hey tsx lost to a heavy Toyota 4 runner...

i understand ur case, i guess it's jus the limit of 4 cylinder against a 6 cylinder.

but i'm jus wondering what kind of asshole would go 60 to 120 in a minivan.

ever drive a lotus exige? i guess i'm jus not a heavy v8 guy.

I don't know. A lone man in a minivan, on his way home to the wife with the milk and bread he was sent to fetch. Perhaps he didn't like my shiny red RDX.

or perhaps he's jealous that you're in an RDX while he's stuck in a crappy Odyssey that his wife probably told him to buy, probably he's whipped too.

Wow, man... you're a clown - get a grip. It's an SUV, not a god damn sports car. It's not mean to be raced. So stupid...

I don't get to race much, but I liked how my new RDX held its own against a young macho in some "sport-tuned" sedan a couple days ago. Not sure what he was driving, but it revved like its muffler was missing... And he definitely had stick shift, from the sound of it... Nevertheless, he couldn't "take" me, and I wasn't even flooring the pedal or playing with gears.

So yeah -- either "operator error", or "rigged" Odyssey, or unfavorable starting conditions of the "race".

By the way, in my previous 2002 Accord with a 200HP V6 I was whipped by a minivan or a small truck -- don't remember what it was. A bit embarassing -- with my teenage cousin in my car. That was like in 2004 or 2005, so it was a relatively new car at the time. Just proves my point -- there are lots of factors besides a "4" vs. "6" in the engine nomination.

Okay, to "race" someone you need two people, yourself and the other person. Unless you have cleared with the other person, you can't be sure that they are "racing" you, they could be just f-ing with you. Also, you can't really tell by looking at a car that they will or not smoke you
http://www.caranddriver.com/reviews/...nament_feature
funny how an SW can take the Audi supercar eh...
Worst is to assume that because the person drives a minivan he/she is not "cool" and must be fetching milk and bread. Just remember that everyone here with an RDX is driving a Faux SUV and I don't see stories of anyone going off-road.
By the way, he didn't "almost" smoke you, he DID smoke you....also you had a very interesting menu of cars, LR2, X3 and VUE?? WTF is the VUE doing there?? not power or speed for sure...
Hey, here is a thought, write something positive or neutral about the RDX every once in a while, this is an RDX board after all.....

Some simple analysis shows that the RDX is around the quickest CUV in the class. The new Forester *might* edge it out, but the Edge, CX-7, Outlander, X3, Tiguan etc. are all slower in pretty much every mag test.

I'm sure some perform better at higher speeds, but to pretend the RDX is somehow slow for what it is simply isn't true.

I've driven the new Odessey's and they do haul ass. So what if you lost to the minivan. It doesn't make the RDX slow by any means and I mean honestly who really cares?

A older guy down the street from me has a silver one. I never thought I would like a Vette. But when you read the specs, it is a great buy for the money.

I never did understand why the RDX got great acceleration numbers, it's rated at 240hp and weighs 4,000lbs with an auto/awd for more drivetrainloss, I test drove one and it didnt feel as fast as my husbands Volvo but it was snappier than my xc90

but really there is no operator error in a automatic car

There's a S mode. Please use it to release the RDX's mode potential.

I thought about the Z06, but that GT-R is just...well awesome. My dream car. But every time my wife reminds me of $70,000 a year for tuition and room and board that I have to come with, the dream fades. LOL. I could easily get my dream car if it wasn't for the brats. They better be worth it, in the long run.

Don't go around dissing odysseys because they can easily beat saturns.
