Gas Tank Problem

I've noticed a couple of times now that when my tank is near empty and I pull up to the station to fill it up, that I can only fill it up a couple of litres before the pump stops (like the tank is almost full...except it's still almost empty).

At first, I thought it was the pump at the station, but it's now happened at different stations...always when my tank is near empty. If the tank is more than a quarter full, it's fine, and I can fill up like normal.

Anyone else have this problem? Are there any solutions? I addressed it with Acura, and they said all I had to do was go slow at the pump until I fill a quarter-tank and then let it fill up at full speed.

Well couple things come to mind, but one stands out...AIR!

Do you open the gas cap before you even lift the pump nozzle. I like to open the cap a bit let the air out and then put my credit card in and lift nozzle and pump.

Also don't put the nozzle all the way in to the tank (half way is good) and pump slowly, there is a theory where if the fluid is dropping at a higher speed it creates "fumes" that go back into the nozzle but doesn't get subtracted from your bill :P

Try some of the stuff I stated and see what happens.

Cool thanks man. I'll give it a shot. I definitely remove the gas cap before I even swipe my card but I do jam the nozzle all the way in. I'll try it your way the next trip to the station.

Carefull now- Plainsman will be all over this one. Now we can't even fill
up our X's any more due to quality
Rest assured Boon- This is typical of most vehicles- (at least the many I have owned). If you let it get way down- there's tons of air displacing at the same time.
Just go slow for a bit then you're OK!
