first 'real' test of the RDX's brakes...
first 'real' test of the RDX's brakes...
as the thread title says.
i was heading to the train station this morning. i was approaching the intersection about a quarter mile from my place. i was about 100 ft away from the intersection, heading east and the light turned green on my direction of the intersection.
the intersection appeared to be clear. no oncoming traffic, and as mentioned before, i had the green light.
well apparently the guy driving an 18 wheeler didnt think the rules of the road applied to him. as i was about to make the left turn to head north, i hear the blaring horn from the truck. i turn and see that this truck is bearing down on the intersection heading southbound, he isnt stopping. now by this time, the stoplight for the north/southbound traffic had been red for about 10 seconds. traffic on both sides was obviously stopped at the light.
so back to the me, the rdx, and the truck driver. thank god for youth and quick reaction, i applied pressure on the brakes. the rdx quickly came to a halt with a little assistance from the ABS. the truck blew right through the intersection, missing the front end of my rdx by probably at most a foot. now mind you, this was at 6am, so the truck driver could have been out of his goard on lack of sleep.
i have to say that he was lucky, because had i not been late for my train, and had i not have the discipline to restrain myself from acting on my emotions, i probably would've pulled a hard right, gunned it, and followed him and bitch his ass out.
point being, the brakes on the rdx are pretty damn solid, and did a great job at prevented me getting slammed into by some idiot truck driver.
i guess the man upstairs was looking out for me.....or at least the RDX

Holy crap man, that is some crazy sh--t. Something similar happened to me when driving an MDX with a truck and the merging lane...except I was the one asleep at the wheel. The brakes saved me from getting sideswiped by the truck.
God bless quick reflexes and a capable RDX. Good testimony.

Ain't that the truth!
Oh please, anyone who complains about traffic outside of Los Angeles knows nothing. Come commute here for a few weeks and you'll go fleeing back to your Chicago and gladly wear your meat suit.
I dare anyone to take the 57 to the 10 to the 405 and see how long it takes you in rush hour traffic.

i could be in the middle of traffic in new york, LA, japan....point is traffic is traffic at the end of the day. and i'm not a fan of sitting in it day in and day out.
so, whenever you get off that high horse of yours, the sooner you'll realize its the point of being stuck in traffic.
kthxbye

Yeah, I second that. I live in Arlington Heights, but work in Chicago. I had to drive in today and I have to leave before 6AM just to make it in before 7AM.
Any time after that, then we are lookin' at a 2-3 hour commute.
