Field Coil & Clutch or New Compressor

So my 07 RDX is having the typical AC issue. Last year it was intermittent and this year it’s non-exsistent.

I already tried removing the shim to close to close the gap for the armature plate, no dice.

I replaced the relays, no dice.

So so I figured it’s the field coil. If I’m replacing the field coil should I go ahead and replaced the clutch. If I replaced the field coil and clutch should I go ahead and replaced the whole damn thing? I can get a new aftermarket AC compressor for about $50 more than the clutch and field coil. All I would have to do is have the local shop evacuate the system and then I replace and recharge myself.

Plus we all know it’s easier to replace the compressor as a whole vs. replacing the clutch and field coil on it. So do I spend time on fixing it when it may Fix it but not guaranteed or do I just replace the damn thing?

Any experiences or professional options?

Thanks in advance!

You can test the field coil with the compressor still mounted. just give it power and see if the clutch engages. But if it's intermittent, try tugging on the connector or lightly tapping your compressor with a hammer as it's running. See if either of these causes it to stop working. Replacing the clutch and coil with it still attached isn't that hard and cuts down time of having to flush and refill your system.

You can also test for power going to the compressor. See if when you click on your a/c, power is actually being sent. Check your ground too. I haven't had to look at my compressor yet so I don't know if it's self grounding or not. If it is, just take some sandpaper to where it bolts up to the mount just to clean it up a little and ensure your ground is good.
