Extreme Contact DWS

Just got a set put on today. Anyone running these on an RDX? Mine feel a little spongy. Curious what other are running for PSI.

Glad you posted this. I am looking at these vs. a pair of Bridgestone Dueler H/L Alenzas. Tough choice as they appear nearly even on Tire Rack for scoring with a slight edge to the Contis. I'd also like to see some user feedback on these.

i have a set on order as well not for the RDX but the audi. I will report once they are on and some snow...

the reviews on tirerack, although favorable, lacks a big enough sample size which is why i think was rated so high. but they posed such a great value in performance/cost that i took a chance on them.

dzasta, yeah, I had same thought on the sample size. Hmm. I know a couple of guys have them here, haven't done a big search yet, but mmike and nyjumpman said they've got 'em. Maybe they could post their thoughts and pressure numbers...

I have the duelers. I like them. They seem to feel better at slightly higher than stock pressure, more like 34 psi.

Depends which Duelers you're talking about...it's a big line. A variation of Duelers may be stock, though. They were on my wife's Suzuki XL-7. I think they were Dueler A/Ts or similar. I'd guess this is what they put on CR-V as the Alenzas really are billed as a luxo SUV tire. I had a set of H/L Alenzas on my old Element that I replaced the stock GYs with. World of difference. Quiet as a library and dry/rain/snow handling was amazing. That's why I'm looking at them again.

Sure thing, and I'd be wondering, too. I think those lower-end Duelers were called A/T Revos. They're not bad for a stocker. (You want bad, try enduring the '03 Element GY stockers!) The Duelers lasted about 45k on the XL-7, traction was average, no curve howls unlike our Michelin Pilots — but they were definitely on the loud side in general. Anyway, imho the Dueler H/L Alenzas are an entirely different tire than the Dueler A/T Revos.

In case anyone else is also looking at the Alenzas, I just heard tonight that Costco is now carrying Bridgestone again. I'm going to confirm this tomorrow. One other plus to consider is the workmanship warranty: free replacement for 3 years (not to be confused with Road Hazard which is a separate animal), then prorated through 5 years / 65k miles. They also have a 30-day test drive.

The same warranty on the Conti DWS is 1-year free replacement then prorated through 6 years / 50k miles; 60-day test drive.

There is roughly a $32 difference between a set of Conti DWSs and Bridgestone Alenzas via Tire Rack in 235/55/18. I think for the money, these two are both among the top all-season shoes for the RDX.

Sorry to thread jack! Can somebody post their pressures for the DWS if anybody here has them yet?

FU: Costco is in fact carrying Bridgestones again and they have the Alenza in our stock size. I know this doesn't matter to everyone, but they include Road Hazard, and free lifetime rotate and balance. $191/tire installed (+ tax). Lowest price I've seen on this tire by far. Unfortunately they don't carry Contis.

I don't have the conti's on the RDX but I recently got them for my Audi. They are fantastic in the snow and other weather.

I do have the alenza's on the RDX though and they are good as well.

You folks should look up Toyo tires. Tire Rack doesn't carry them so a lot of people miss it out during there search so wanted to throw that in. I believe for RDX you could go with Toyo Versado (Grand Touring A/S) or Toyo Proxes 4 (High Performance A/S). One of our resident vendor Treade Depot carries Toyo line of tires, incase you wanted to compare price.

While not exactly the same tire, I've run the Continental ContiExtremeContacts on my on my G35C and agree they are slightly squirmy, but on the other hand, are the best super high performance all seasons in the snow I've seen. In the end, I think if you are willing to lose a bit of summer performance, these are pretty good tires overall, and better than most in the snow. Not sure how the DWS compares, but I was happy with the ContiExtremeContacts. YMMV.

The Revo aren't really low end. In fact, the Bridgestone Revo A/T is arguably one of the best A/T tires around. It uses a high quality dual compound rubber to provide excellent wet weather traction. I've run many sets of these on our Jeep until we traded it in for the RDX. In fact, I like these tires so well that I downsized our rims so we could run the Revo A/Ts on our RDX.

That said, it there are a lot of models that carry the "Dueler" name, and I'm sure lots of them are lower end products that perform less well.

Yeah, the DWS's are squirmy, but they still perform very well. i have them on my G35X. Once you get past the squirm, they stick very well.

I stand corrected. Could be that I got the name mixed up, all I remember for sure is that they were Duelers and a decent tire. Not terrific, but decent enough. Doesn't sound like these were the A/T Revos. Thanks for the clarification, john.

My first impression the first few days having the ExtremeContact DWS was that it was 'sticky' from a dead stop. On the other hand, cornering I felt the car 'floated' a bit more (oversteer?) than the worn Michelins I used to have. Light snow was very good. After a week, I hardly noticed the 'stickiness'/'grippiness' and appreciated the cornering performance. I guess my driving adapted and compensated for the 'float'.

we've been getting 2-4" of snow every day for the last 3 days and the dws are doing very well. I hated the oem's but these seem to track very well.
