Deposits

Yes, I put down a dep. of $1000 (dealer wanted $2000) on RDX. Said delivery would be late May. I was #12 on the list back in mid-January.

Is that refundable? There is no way I will eat a grand if I change my mind. Not that it would happen.

Refundable. Plus, I have bought 3 Acura's from this dealer in past and have a good relationship.

I'm looking to buy a car in the last half of this year in the $28 - $33k range (want 35k out the door or better) so the Acura RDX is right in my alley.

One of my best friends' dad is a top seller at a local Acura dealer, so I asked my friend to inquire about the pricing of the RDX as well as asking about a waiting list. I'll report back when (if) I get any answers.

Chances are the board will have the info first. It always does.

Yeah he didn't have any pricing, and you're probably right that Honda will release it P.R. style to everyone at once.

They are taking deposits and have a few people on the list already, I don't know how much yet. I'll report back.

Having said that my Acura salesman I spoke with today thinks it will start at 40-42 Canadian. For comapriosn, a TL starts at that up here.

Dom, i was even told it is going to be more $ than that. anywhere from 42-50k Cad.
50 could be stretching it, but who knows...Americans do not fear, we pay more for our Honda/Acura than you guys

I've put a $500 refundable deposit on my credit card to get a place in line for the RDX.

If you want an RDX within the first 6 months of introduction, expect to pay MSRP. If you put a deposit down, don't pay more than $1000, and make sure to put it on a credit card (you can always win a credit card dispute if a bad dealership doesn't want to refund your deposit hassle free).

I went through this with my 2004 TL. I put down a significant deposit prior to the 3G TL's arrival and I had the first one the dealer sold. The deposit was refundable at my dealer. The comment about MSRP is totally true--expect to forget about negotiations if this car is as hot a seller as the TL turned into immediately on release. I paid MSRP on my car, and now, 2.5 years later, only a fool would do that.

Latest info. from my dealer where I have a deposit is that I am in "the first allotment" when available. I was told when I put the deposit down end of January that I was #12 in line. As of last week, he now says I am actually #5 in line. I believe I was told there was more advanced interest originally and now I am 7 spots ahead. No doubt, I was originally told sometjing that was not true in order to secure my deposit. Lesson learned.

Anyway, does anyone know how many cars are usually in a "allotment"?

I think an 'alottment' is very fluid and depends on the dealer (size of dealer, sales figures, how much honda likes them, etc).

The good news is with this car a dealer can't really mess with you too much. You're going to pay MSRP wherever you go, so thats the price. Just don't let them add on any nutty options.

In St Louis here...I am #7 here with no deposit required. I can't wait to see this in person, is everyone else checking daily like I am for new information? Talked to a Honda dealer today and they are anxious to see it too...New York Auto Show for grand launch!
