Deciphering VIN Numbers

Anyone know how the RDX VIN numbers work. I may pull the trigger soon and would rather get a vehicle that is fresh into the dealership instead of one that has been rotting on the lot for 3 months (and we all know that many have been).

Are they sequential or coded? If I go into the dealership and look at 2 black RDX's, will the newer one have the higher VIN number?

Look at the last 5 digits of the VIN for the build number. They started from 0 and are currently up in the 12,000-13,000 range or higher, from what I am seeing on the lots. Anything lower than 6,000 has been there since at least September.

last 5 digits

For example, if the last five digit is 01244, does that mean it's the 1244th off the line?
