December 2006 Sales Volumes
December 2006 Sales Volumes
I have just completed 3k mile (3.8 k miles altogether) journey to CA for 10 days and I have not seen one RDX on the road.
I initially planned the trip with my wife's RDX but she did not want to.
In a way I like it that way but then it makes me wonder....

I've seen only 3 in the wild besides mine since they were released. Exclusivity in a $35k car is a little refreshing, and I definitely stand out a bit from all the legions of posers in their base model BMW 3 series sedans.
Good increase over last month, but the sales figures do include a few extra days. Acura extended december sales to cover january 1 & 2, at least that's what pohanka acura says. I guess just to boost end of year numbers, and maybe makeup for the xmas holiday.
It's probably no coincidence that these improved numbers come about the same time that a lot of dealers gave up on their dream of selling this car at MSRP. In my own quest, I noticed that the prices began dropping pretty rapidly after the Thanksgiving holiday and continued to drop throughout December.
From a previous thread discussing November figures the monthly increases were about 300 from October to November, and 400 from November to December.
I wonder if Acura is expecting January's numbers to be 500~600 more than December's.

I hear ya.
Think about this:
I live in car crazy Los Angeles. I have a 24 mi. each way commute to work.
I've seen 3 RDX's driving around.
you-neek vehicle right now.
I've still only seen one other one - a white one on I-85 S a few weeks ago. My husband saw one in a parking lot, but when he got closer he saw that it was a dealer loaner
I'm enjoying being one of the few ...

Same goes for southern CT - I've seen two total - one randomly driving through town and the other carbon bronze that's always in the lot at my work. Do continue to see lots of MDXs though. Still love the RDX and enjoy not seeing a ton of them like the Murano!
Not sure if I've said this elsewhere, but, went from Falls Church, Va to Pensacola, Fl at Thanksgiving...then over to New Orleans and back to Falls Church. Two weeks, never saw an RDX. Since coming back I've seen three here in Virginia. I traded in my 05TL for my RDX because you couldn't go a block without seeing another TL, the same color even. I know it's stupid to feel that way. But this concerns me. What will the trade in be down the road? That aside, I love driving this car. Oh, didn't take the RDX on the trip. Needed more room to bring things back with us. Took our MDX.

According to my local dealer, RDX Techs were initially hot and the base model was cold. Previous closeout deals on the old MDX made it more compelling than the base RDX. Now that the new MDX is out, the RDX Tech is lagging and the base RDX is selling better. Apparently a lot of shoppers see the $37K RDX Tech and the $40K MDX and go with the MDX. I always wondered if there would be some competition between the two, and that indeed appears to be the case. Personally, the MDX is too big for me -- I much prefer the smaller RDX.

I wouldn't worry too much about the current lack of RDXs on the road. My Element started the same way...first six months they were out, they were pretty rare. Now you trip over them going anywhere. I just hope the RDX doesn't become as ubiquitous as the Element.
I live in Wichita and saw one in the city, one in Emporia and another in KC that had dealer tag.
Here in the suburbs south of Hartford, I have only seen one RDX (Carbon Bronze) and that was only once in a restaurant parking lot. Haven't seen it since. There are a lot of Acuras in this area (TLs, RLs and CLs). I seem to be noticing them more than before I got my RDX. There are also HUNDREDS of Muranos. They seem to be everwhere. My wife said that it was a good thing we did not buy one of them.
I agree that early on the leftover 2006 MDXs were competing with the RDX. Why buy a small RDX when for the same money you could get a MDX? Now that is changing and I think sales will improve with time. Not many people know about this SUV yet. I get a lot of compliments on it.
At lunch today I saw the Ford Edge when driving by our local Ford dealership. Looked pretty nice from a distance. Not sure what the inside looks like or how it drives. Jay

The Edge has a nice look to it. Unfortunately, that's where American companies focus all their efforts, so I'm sure it will drive like a Taurus. They just don't put the time into the engineering like the Japanese and Germans do.

He is an acura dealer, so acura is probably his source.
But just because acura decreases production doesn't mean you'll see less on the road. As long as sales numbers continue to increase, then so will sightings on the road. decreasing production numbers just means that they have a surplus and are making them faster than they are selling them.

If January and February production is based on expected sales then yes production could be an indicator of units seen on the road. But if Acura sells more of the vehicles currently in the dealer lots than previous months, conceivably there could be more RDXs seen on the road.

The number on the roads is not naturally decreasing at this point due to retirement, considering the vehicle is only a few months old. Thus ANY incremental sales going foward will increase their presence on the roads. Only difference is presence won't be increasing as fast as if there was more production AND more sales.
