daytime running lights

Since the daytime running lights come on whether any of the parking lights or headlights are on or not, is there any way to turn off the daytime lights w/out the parking lights or HID's on?

Nope, not without disabling them by pulling the fuses. But this would probably throw up an error message on the MID for a DRL problem.

The only time the DRLs are off is when the parking brake is engaged and the car is started(they come on as soon as the parking brake is disengaged), or when the headlights are on. The DRLs will not turn off when the car is running and then the parking brake is engaged.

Right. And it is also legislated in some markets (e.g. Canada), so some mfr's just make it standard now so there is less customization on the plant floor.

Out of curiosity, why is there such a resistance in the US to DRLs?? They make a huge difference in visibility (ie: someone being able to see YOU) and therefore safety... especially when driving on two-lane blacktop.

And complaints about DRLs "blinding" oncoming traffic are BS. Haven't had a problem here since they were introduced (in the early 90s I think).

I have no problem with them being on, I just wish they (as well as the fog lights) matched the color of the HID standard beams.

For the most part DRLs aren't really needed in the US. If you calculate population per square mile (or meter ), it is easy to see why you'd need to make yourself more visible in Canada. There's a lot more open space. Down here in California on highway 101 at 5MPH, the car 2 feet in front of me doesn't need DRLs to know I'm there.

Yeah, but you don't have to go far off of highway 101 to get into a rural area. This is a big country with a lot of open space.

The DRL's use the same bulb as the high beam, right or wrong? If so, what type of bulb is the DRL?
