considering changing...opinion - RDX to MDX?
Since I currently have the Acura 2008 RDX - Tech
I'm considering switching to the MDX 2009 w/ Tech.
If you thought about this, and/or actually done it, please let me know.
What were your reasons for switching? What made you consider?
The Pro's/Con's.
Since I'm currently financing the car, I want to do a trade in with what I have.
I have my KBV at around 26000.
I'm hoping to get around the same/lower APR then what i already have.

i also planned trading my rdx to mdx; dealer wants my rdx for 26,000 and mdx is 7,000 lower than msrp. My monthly will go up to 700/month for 60 months. I was very disapointed with my rdx in regards to road noise.
Since dealer will only give 26 k for my 08 rdx i did not continue getting mdx for now. Maybe i'll just wait 3 more years or just do undercoating for my rdx to minimize road noise.

forget the V6...the MDX is on another level....id go MDX all the way, granted ur not going to have the tossability that the RDX gives you, but if you are considering the MDX, do you even care?
MDX is prob the best midsized out, compared to the X5, Benz, Caddy etc...its tough to beat and a sure bet.

Well...I don't know...Yeah..all new cars..are not perfect, and given the issues, are dated for under warrenty..and can be repaired...I"m just tired of the hassle, Just give me a car that works great. I want to stick w/ honda/acura..they've made great vehicles.
The only reason i would change is b/c its bigger, v6 engine, and since im always inclined to do road trips/big family..thats why.
MOney wise - it made sense for me back then.
MY KBV is about 25000.
and financing.
The thing i Want is..if i trade this in for that value..i want a better APR or lower, and pretty much b payin not by much per monthly...
i got my rdx for about 40000 w/ side steps - Tech package.
Im getting net price of 38972 - MDX w/ Tech. (not including tax, installing, etc...)
I need the price to capture me. i want to be paying the same amount or less per month...
(knowing that the mDX is a family car).
(im not married, but i have to take care of people w/in the fam..ya know..the mom, sister, cousins..etc..)

im assuming 40k was including ttl etc...if u push a good deal u may be close to 40k with the MDX maybe 1 or 2 k over, same or lower, i dunno bout that, even with mega discounts going on the MDX at its lowest price will still be more expensive than any RDX out there....
good luck, maybe it will happen given the economy, just finding the right dealer who wants to make a sale....id go MDX all the way, id miss the abilities of the RDX on nice smooth road, but the MDX lux & features & refinement would make me forget the RDX really quick

My vote is for the RDX. I used to have both. Yes, the MDX is smoother on the highway but I never looked forward to driving it as I do my RDX.
I've owned a lot of cars and have to say the RDX is by far my fav.

I love my RDX, dont get me wrong... Mike knows bout our issues we've gone thru together..,lol...we nag bout the crap..cause it pisses us of the stuf that happens to our new cars..what nothing is perfect..if only it was made DIRECTLY in JAPAN and then shipped over instead of in OHIO.lol
Im seriously considering the trade in..to MDX...
but I'll see what they have to offer.

i just think and i think the maj would agree..the MDX is just a better overall vehicle, u lose the dynamics of the RDX but what you gain the MDX is at another level entirely...kinda like graduating from the pedal powered to the motorized 4 wheeler...haha pedal power is fun but having the real deal is different....if the RDX carried the same level of refinement & lux, RDX no question because of the driving experience, but having had the RDX since it came out, the driving experience gets you only so far, its lacking in many other areas that, I personally, would be willing to sacrafice for
Ok, I had a difference situation. I got an 08 RDX back in June 08. We choose to get the RDX because we wanted something with higher ground clearance (coming from sedan and coupe) and because of the incentives that were available back then.
Then last september, we were in the market for an additional car. My mom wanted something that could fit the whole family (6 members in the family) for a trip or something, instead of driving 2 cars. Options available were MDX, BMW X5, Audi Q7, Mercedes GL450, or minivan. Because we wanted an SUV, minivan was out of the list. We tried the X5, and the back seat was very small. Not much legroom, out. The Q7 was too big and V8 was the only option, so was the GL (didn't want diesel either), so out. Then, last was the MDX. My sisters (15 and 20 yrs old) sat on 3rd row and they said the space was decent. Then, we went for a test drive and in less than 5 kms they were feeling dizzy in the last row. My parents sat in the 3rd, and after another drive, same problem. Since no one might end up sitting in the 3rd row, the 3rd will be felt as "wasted". We went back to the 5 seats SUV and had more options to choose from. After, we end up getting a Mercedes ML350.
Don't get me wrong. The MDX is a nice car. You get more from the MDX for the value you pay (300 hp vs 268 hp, etc), compare to others. For the money we paid for the Benz, we could have got a loaded MDX, but it was just personal preference (prestige?).
So my opinion is to try out the MDX first. Go for a test drive with your family and tell them to try out the 3rd row. If no one feel comfortable, they don't want to sit in it. Probably kids might be ok with it. And just make your decision from there.

This is a fascinating thread. It's clear both the RDX and MDX are great vehicles--but very different. I have to say I've been on a several decade quest for the 'perfect' car for me. I've concluded there is no such creature, not unlike finding the perfect President or the perfect partner, etc. In other words, it's important to know what the most important attributes are. That said, the RDX is a great little buggy. I wish it had better gas mileage. But other than that it's a blast. And the SHAWD is first rate. I don't find the ride to be as nasty as many report--that too is a matter of preference. I've adjusted my expectations on this count since it's a sporty suv, not a cushy sedan. I've tried most brands in my quest for various attributes and know that no car--so far--can give me the Perfect Day (by the way--the title of a great old novel by the author of Rosemary's Baby, Ira Levin).
I would not opt for the MDX. For 90% of my drive, it's me, solo. When my wife is along--she loves the RDX. We don't really need more space. I came to the RDX via the TSX and driveability still matters to me, even at my tender age of 60. Either way--if you know what your preferences are, you won't be unhappy with either of these fine rides.

I"m glad this thread I created great opinions n interest. It's nice to hear.
I'm still on open marken..since I have the 08 RDX.
I mean..I do drive solo to work, buyt its only like 5-10 minute drive for me each way.
As for traveling...I do much highway mileage/travel over the course of the weekends.
And I do have a big family also, which we always go on trips together, etc.
So, I'll definitely have to see. I'm stuck man. LOL
I love Acura's...just down to which one..keeping the RDX or moving on to the MDX.

if there was ever a time to get the car you always wanted for a price you could never get in any regular situation, now is the time...id make the jump, because $$ it will be very close, and these unique econ situations should be taken advantage of, if u have the money of course....
You dont save any money on buying a new car and even trading your old car. delaer will always try to tell u u had a great deal but in reality you will lose money. So the question is do you really like the MDX coz if you love that car no matter what u will get it... Both cars are great its really up to u which car u like the most.
If you want more sporty ride keep the rdx if you want more luxury get the mdx. :p

Well I mean, car for the long run...having the MDX mite fit best much afterwards....
RDX is great...for individual basis..but if I travel...often..and go on trips...and hav elots of luggage..and then have more people riding in..things change..ya know?

Thought about switching a lot several times. When I got my RDX, the new MDX wasn't out yet and I didn't want to get into something that was going to be dated within a couple months.
For me, I considered switching to the MDX because of it being a bit bigger, quieter and smoother than the RDX. I love the MDX interior and its aggressive exterior.
This was before the heavy discounts and price was an issue.

I really liked the '08 MDX I test drove last June before I purchased my current '08 Tech. That said, the MDX was simply too much vehicle for a daily driver. If they can improve the '10 RDX so that it has the same ride and lack of road noise as the MDX I will buy the '10 RDX.
While I really like my RDX I do not like the lousy mpg and pronounced road noise above 60 mph.

Awd
I have to confess I'm not an expert on this subject--the 08 RDX is my second AWD vehicle. But I bought it in part because of a nasty holiday season snow mess here in the pacific northwest and found the RDX to be truly amazing. It was never, not once, stifled while other AWD's, some with chains on all 4's, sat spinning in places. The RDX handled securely and felt like a young thoroughbred asking for more challenges. By the way--on one of these threads it was recently noted that ALL Acura models received top ratings for crash safety. Just one more plus for the RDX.
nyc - have u checked on pricing....stuff is in the toilet, was checking local MB dealers...i can move into a C/GLK for low 30's...offered C3004matic sport close to 30k, no joke.
maybe waiting till the summer getting a left over - which im sure there will be many of - u can def move to the MDX for crazy cheap, probably at that point lower than your original RDX price.

Yeah, not a big fan of the MB, dislike the cheap-lookin interior...
Other than that..I'm gona ask around again, or like you said..wait for the summer time.
I just got back from a little vacationk so I'm still in Pacific Time zone..lol

The old saying of "getting what you pay for" certainly applies to the MDX. That said, I would not buy any MDX right now. The '10 MDX and RDX should have a lot of the new tech that is found in the '09 TL, RL and TSX. The '10 ZDX will be a stunner if the concept is anyways near the production model, but it might be too steep for most Acura buyers if it is priced above the RL, which seems likely. Even with 0% financing (very unlikely) and no trade-in a 60-month loan would set you back around $867/mo at an MSRP of $52K.
