Clear Bra

Anyone found or considering clear bra or something called Body Armor? I'm not too sure but I hear body armor is a full car coat to help protect it. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

I think that is the brand name for a clear bra that fits over the front of the car. Also comes as autobahn, stonegard, etc... I had it on my last car. It protects the finish from gravel dings, etc. It seemed to work well - no dings after 5 years, but it was pricey.

I got this....I got the full package.

I really noticed on my CR-V that under the door handle was getting scratched up a bit...so I was glad the clear layer was put there on the RDX. My CR-V wasn't even 2 years old when I traded it in.

so does body armour cover the entire car? even the doors? I did not know that existed! I should mention that the annoying thing about the autobahn I had on my front and the strip I applied to the rear bumper is that instead of dings on the paint, you end up with dings on the plastic. If someone dings you, it gets kind of ripped up and tattered which makes it look like you have paint dings. So in the end you don't have body damage, but you're pissed cuz you have these unsightly holes in the plastic film which you spent a lot of money for. In the end, I don't think it helped me with trade in value or anything either.

I'll have to check to verify, but I want to say it was in the $1600 range for the "full" option...and no it's not the entire car. If I find the information, I'll let you know what exactly it is. But essentially, it's everything facing forward that would get hit by the wind/rocks. And under all the door handles so that area doesn't get scratched.

It's hard for me to see all the areas so I have to really look for them!

There are like 3 options: Full, 3/4s and just the nose...or something like that.

I paid $600 or so for the 3M brand name clear bra on my last vehicle, and after a year or so, I noticed it developed a small haze, not bad, but it was no longer clear.

First off, just because that clear bra is on there, does not mean that bugs and stuff will not impact and either get through it or nick it. If you don't clean the bugs off of it, their wasted bodies eat into it, leaving permanent marks!

The clear bra sounds good, but it ain't that good in my opinion.

I do not think I would ever have that done to one of my cars again.

damn, u paid 1600 for the full option for t he rdx? wow...

so u think they would only have the door handle area and front nose?

and those of you who had it on your previous cars, did it change the color of the paint, like protect it from the sun better then the uncovered spots?

did not have any effect on the paint color at all.

I am not planning on getting it again for any of my future vehicles. I don't really think it's worth it.

It was a $1000 for the full - I checked the paperwork last night.

If you only wanted the hood it was just under $600 I think.

I'm going back and forth on it as well. Does anyone know if it is worth it to try to get it put on by someone other than the dealer?

Yep it was at the dealer...I didn't want to have to deal with anyone by them.

I think they price it so that you choose the full one.

I really like the one under the door handles...it's really quite nice and my last car was getting quite scratched up from opening the door after only a few years. My car before wasn't, so I don't quite understand it.

Probably just a difference in the clearance between the door handle and the car itself. That area always seems to get the scratched look. usually the marks come from fingernails and can be polished off very easily. Its the rings that do the worst damage. Especially those HUGE diamond wedding solitaires.... but you really have to try to get the ring that far under the door handle to scratch it.

My dealer doesn't offer services like that. usually the dealer would just subcontract out some space to another company that specializes in that sort of thing. Window tinting, body armor, PDR, services like that. the real advantage of doing this through the dealer is that you can work it into the cost of the vehicle and finance it together if you financed your purchase.

Wow, I'm not sure what to really say...if you're talking about the 3M clear bra, I paid $270 Canadian for 24" hood coverage and front fender as well as mirrors. If I got the bumper one as well, that's an extra $350. This is also from a company that actually wraps the 3M around the edges as well so there really isn't much left uncovered.

Other than that, if it is clear coat protectant, the only time I've had that was a long time ago and the paint on that car seemed to be the worst out of all of the cars I've had.
