Carbon Gray

Seeing how my local dealers don't have any in stock and it's impossible to find a real life photo of one online, I quickly mocked up a couple of pics of the RDX in Carbon Gray. The 2nd photo is courtesy of SolidState...who was nice enough to send me pics of his Royal Blue RDX with the Sparkle Silver wheels (nice combo!).

Anyone who owns or seen a Carbon Gray in real life....would you say these photos are acurate? Or am I way off?

The carbon gray is definitely a few shades lighter than that.

Ahh bugger. I was hoping it'd look like that...similar to the diamond gray on the new Legacy's (or charcoal gray on the Lexus RX).

How about this?

I believe that the Acura Carland dealer here has a Carbon Grey on the lot. I'll try and grab a pic of it on the way home today if it's sitting out on the lot and post it tonight.

Picture looks pretty close to mine which is Carbon Grey.

It all depends on the light that it is sitting in .

That's interesting...and exactly why I'm asking about pics. I agree the CGP on the TSX is bad@$$....even on my friend's Accord it looks slick. But I think it has to do with form factor. Colours on a smaller car won't ever look as sleek on the big ones. I remember reading somewhere else on this forum that the CGP TSX is exactly the same as the RDX. Go figure.

Wiz, if you can post some shots that'd be awesome.

That's much closer. The CGP also tends to have a hint of blue in direct sunlight and fades to nearly a green in dim lighting. It really was a fantastic color.

exactly bro, i forgot to type that in too sorry, when i explained to my dad, that CGP might be a nice color, but would only look good on a sedan or a small car and not on a suv... which is y i narrowed my choices to silver and black... but got the silver to eliminate the headaches that swirls and straches black would give me

i would say in this pic, u can see the color in and out of the sun, and BOTh which looks pure grey... the carbon grey i saw in person in the lot of acura.. was purely blue-ish... not even a shade of grey to it... and it looked weird... and there was an 06 cgp tsx 2 cars away, and the color was totally different

CGTSX/Chillintsx - thanks for the feedback. you guys pretty much confirmed my suspicions. I've seen one or two MDX's floating around my area in a grayish-green colour (for some reason it was always cloudy) and now I know it's the CGP paint. Looks fine on something as small as the TSX but it wasn't too flattering on the MDX.

I'm going to have to rethink my colour options.

anytime... and ur right... the grey on the MDX does look green... not my style haha

i was actually concidering the royal blue for the RDX at one point when i saw the color in the brochoure.. but then on their site, it looked weird so i said F that to be safe... but just before i saw a blue one somewhere on this forum and i thought it looked pretty nice shouldve gotten blue haha! damn

Also, I"ll try to park my CG TSX next to it to see how it compares. My CG TSX definitely has a bluish hue in it.

The search is over! I dashed out at lunch to see if Acura of North Toronto had any new inventory and sitting in their lot was a brand spankin' new CGP RDX! It looks almost identical to the CGP on the TSX (there was one on the other end of the lot) and about as dark as the first mockups I did yesterday. I gotta say, it's the first colour I've seen on the RDX which made me go "wow!"...of course that's a matter of preference. Definitely has that bluish tinge everyone's talking about.

chyllintsx - I found out that the green/gray colour we're seeing on the MDX is actually "brush sage pearl"...slightly different...more of a blue-green metallic...not as appealing as the CGP.

wiz - would still love to see some comparison photos with your own TSX.

As a sidenote, I've been into Acura of North Toronto twice and both times they were snobs. I even went up to a salesman one of the other posters recommended and he brushed me off and told me to make an appointment. I know I'm relatively young but c'mon!! I follow baseball rules so if the same thing happens one more time, they can go shove it.

Yeah man, if I bought the RDX tomorrow CGP would be my choice. Base model since there's no real-time traffic or XM radio in Canada...I also prefer the back-up sensors over the back-up camera.

I'm willing to pay MSRP but they gotta throw in a few accessories (mirror, front skirt, sensors) and y'know, if they actually showed a little courtesy this time. We'll see.

I like the way you roll dude. I'm not going to waste my time going back...they're going to have to make up for being asses via email with a way better deal than what other dealers are offering. If they can do that, then all will be forgiven.

well, not really...but I'll go where the savings are.

Just a word of warning -- if the color is important to you, make sure you see it in the flesh before you decide. The problem with photos is that color matching is almost impossible. First, your film or digital camera sensor can't capture color exactly as you see it. Second, a digital camera will take the captured image, inaaccurate to start with, and mess with exposure, color, contrast, etc. Third, a color that shows up one way on one monitor can look way different on another. And fourth, a printer can't reproduce as many colors as you can see and the printer driver has its own notion of what the color should look like.

This sort of thing drives digital photographers to drinking, purchasing expensive color management systems, or both.

Thanks schuchmn. That's why I was obsessive about seeing it person...but they weren't avail yet so a pic was better than nothing. Like I mentioned above, I finally saw it and fell in love with the CGP. It's just getting the right deal now.

btw, I'm one of those photographers...shopped around for the perfect CRT display with the additional calibration system.

Yeah I liked the CGP on the TSX, but I wish I would have went with the Arctic Blue when I bought my TSX. Oh well. It was finally a nice day yesterday and I was able to snap off 2 shots before I got bombarded by a salesman, which I quickly turned away. Anyway, it looks almost the same as the TSX, but maybe not quite as Blue (of course my TSX is dirty though, so that could have been it). The lighting was not great as it was in the afternoon, but this should give you some kind of idea. I couldn't park right next to it though, but they had about 4 CG's on the lot here.

This is exactly what I meant. I just looked at the above pics on both a laptop LCD screen and a CRT. Both show a blue cast, but it's a bit more noticeable on the laptop. Look at the light colored RDXs next to the CGP, particularly the shadowed areas, and you'll see it. When you shoot on a clear day like that, the blue sky gets picked up in the colors.

Most people won't notice this sort of thing just looking at the pictures, but it almost guarantees that when they see the car live, the color won't be what it looked like on the computer. Just how different it looks depends on your camera, your computer system, your monitor, and how sensitive your eyes are to that sort of thing.

I totally agree with you man. That said, Wiz's pics are actually pretty accurate (for pictures). It's pretty much how I remember the CGP when I saw it in person on a clear day. Taking them farther away was good too so we get an idea of how the car will look sitting in that sunny environment. Way more representative than those Maxim-style brochure pics that Acura publishes...every curve all glossed up and sexified and what not.

I really like the blue tinge and the CGP's ability to kinda absorb/reflect whatever colours are around it. It's what makes it look so slick IMO.

Yeah. I did see the CGP in person and it does look really nice. The only reason I scratched it off my list was that I prefer the taupe interior. The dealer I bought mine from had CGP/taupe on the lot and while I like both colors individually, they just didn't do it for me when you put them together.

I hear ya. Taupe seems to go decently with every colour but the CGP and CBP. I'm a huge fan of the black interior myself...had a chance to sit in one at another dealership (CGP/black) and was totally taken with it.

Sorry the pictures weren't great, but it was the best I could come up with as the afternoon sun is harsh on anything with a reflective surface.

CGP is a great color though (had it in on my TSX for 3.5 years) and it does look damn good.

I hate that the Edit button goes away...here is the link to the fullsize 2nd picture. Sorry about that.

Wasn't trying to pick on your pix, wiz -- they're fine. I was just pointing out how hard it is to judge color from a digial photo, which is why you need to see the car live and in person before deciding.

And actually, Boon, CBP/taupe was my choice -- matter of taste, of course. The only colors I didn't like with taupe were CGP and silver.

Haha sorry schuchmn, didn't mean to put down your car prematurely...but yeah, totally a matter of taste. The bronze or blue would've been my 2nd choice. Post some pics when you get it!

Already got it. I'll get some pix up when I have a chance. Of course the colors in my pix won't necessarily be any better than anyone else's
