bye-bye 07 RDX, hello...

Just traded my 7K mile RDX today on a brand new fully loaded Jeep SRT8. The RDX was a great little truck, but I wanted a change. On a whim I stopped by a Jeep dealer, and a few hours later I was driving my new SRT8 back to Manhattan. I had been looking at MDXs for a while, but after a botched delivery, I decided to go look at something else.

Been fun!

PS - if anyone needs an auto rearview mirror I have one NIB that was never installed on my RDX. I'm in NYC, and would prefer to deal in-person. Just PM me if interested.

Which engine did you get...? I guess THAT makes a difference with the SRT8 since they have about 5 to choose from. They are not all the fastest. The 6.1, yes....

Outstanding financial decision!

Nice replacement, though.
Post a pic of the dual exhaust.

How do you enjoy an SRT8 in Manhattan? By looking badass in bumper to bumper traffic?

Thanks for the nice comments!

I know they're not in the same class as each other, but let me give you my thoughts on the RDX vs the SRT8.

First and foremost; the RDX really carries speed very very very well. I drove much too fast in that thing believe it or not. It was a great truck!

I can ship out the mirror if nobody local wants through work, and I can even take a cc. If nobody from the immediate area wants it, I can ship it (the box is tiny).

Yes. Everytime I drive this thing a polar bear drowns.

How do I drive it? Well like I drive my 530rwhp C6 Z06 -- with great gusto. I actually commute out of the city for work, so I spend little time in traffic.

Gotta love the haters.

The Acura dealer wanted to give me 28-29K for an 08 MDX Sport, which they were selling slightly over invoice. I paid $45.5K for SRT8 and got 30K for the RDX, and then paid the difference in cash. I would say the RDX is in the high 20s trade-in, maybe low 30s for private party. With the economy in the toilet, it's definately a buyers market out there.

Wow. Trading an Acura for a Jeep? I often wonder how some companies stay in business and then I read stories like this.

I was reading the article about the SRT8 in the canadiandriver.ca website... my jolly!!!!!!!!$#@$#@$% fuel consumption = 21L per 100km !!!!!

I thought the RDX was a bit on the thirsty side, this "thing" of SRT8 makes me feel like the RDX seeps gas like a Toyota Prius!!!!!!

Enjoy it, that's an awesome ride!

I hope you don't mind the dealer visits. A quick review of google lists the most common SRT8 complaints:

Service Bulletins for:

transmission leaks,
driveline vibration at speed,
musty cabin odor,
rear driveline creaking,
passenger airbag faults,
noisy brakes,
and side window auto up feature that puts it halfway down again.

There is one Recall for an ABS controller that prevents brake application when stopping uphill:

Scared To Death!!!!

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Today I went into a parking lot that was on a slight incline and this thing ROLLED BACK.Thank GOD there was not any cars behind me because it could have been an accident!Any tsb's on this because I'm very concerned.I will NEVER go up a hill again til this get's fixed.

Could we have some more details? Were you in Park? Was the engine on? Was the key in the ignition?

The truck was on,I was going up the incline(not a hill)VERY SLOW because I was looking for a space.I let off the gas for a milli second and this thing ROLLED BACK,I hit the gas to stop the roll and the tranny didn't catch it as fast as I thought it should so I hit the brakes really hard.I put it in park finally and pulled up the EMERGECY BRAKE.Now I'm like Jeesh,I gotta turn this thing around and get the phuck off this incline so I made a broken U-turn and the down grade was just as worse!(OH GOD)

That definitely sounds like the break recall...there is one that specifically states when going up hill the breaks may fail for a moment...YIKES
I apologize for for not being more supportive; I don't have a "Calvin peeing on Jeep" sticker. Everyone makes their own choices, I hope it works out well for you.

I guess to each his own...

But the ridiculous thirst for gas (@ 21L per 100 km) at this time of $100 a barrel, and the numerous TSBs as mentioned in the previous post (Chrysler has never been great for reliability anyway), is it really worth to endure all of that, plus the hefty price, just to enjoy the monster of a V8, hollering down the road? It is pretty capable off-road, but there are definitely other equally good off-roaders out there too...

I don't see much SRT8s around here... I mean, @ 21L per 100km, plus the tight congestion of roads here, where can one really enjoy all that muscle, except at a track?

I always thought the days of the fuel-guzzling, monster power trucks are over given the high cost of fuel, but apparently there is still "some" interest in them...

I just don't see the practicality of this SRT8, so I think it is a niche hobby for people who don't care about gas prices and reliability of cars...

So I guess everyone has got their own niche hobbies...

Sorry for the vent... enjoy your SRT8... it's your car and money anyway...

Actually mav, I have seen the light, there's a bumper sticker that explains it all:

"It's a Jeep thing; you wouldn't understand"

I get your meaning... you are right... it is DEFINITELY A JEEP THING.

At a time where most car manufacturers are moving towards making more fuel efficient cars (without too too much impact on performance), Chrysler JEEP instead tries to make a last frantic cry out in the auto world, "Ain't nobody can make a monster powered, gas sucking, beast, like we can". Some few niche groups hear it and receive it with joy, others (majority) will shun it.

I mean, seriously... at over 20L per 100km, with 420HP and > 400 lb/ft torque used mostly everyday for urban driving, and a trigger-happy gas throttle (as reviewed by some car magazines) that makes other folks feel like you want to race from one light to another, tight city congestion, Yup, don't get it.. definitely a JEEP thing...

Ya that thing is really fast for an SUV, to bad it's a Jeep though, I drove a loaded Grand Cherokee last year for a rental and it was a POS IMO, quality is just not there

Funny, before buying my RDX, I was gonna buy a Trailblazer SS. 390HP V8, 0-60 I think in the mid 5's... Reason why I didn't buy it was 2 things. Gas 12/16 and the interior looking like it came straight from the 80's. Not to mention no frills on the tech.
I did however love the cargo space in the trailblazer...

I got rid of my 97 Jeep Grand Cherokee. Of course when you go from that old of a vehicle to an RDX, it's night and day...

Good luck with that SRT8... Must be fun to drive...

I'm at a point in my life where I would get depressed driving a car with a "no frills" 80s interior. I can't even stand a 90s interior. Too bland.

I need plush leather and lots of technology or I don't want it.
