Buy RDX Now or Wait?
I'm looking to buy an RDX as a second car for my fiance (I have an '05 TSX), but not sure if I should wait for the '08 model to come out. I am considering 3 options:
1. Buy a tech model now, sounds like their are good deals to be had for around $34K/$35K (??). I don't really need the navi, but I do like the bluetooth and stereo system upgrades (I feel jipped out of the BT on my TSX). It would be nice to have 1 Acura vehicle with the full package.
2. Wait for '08 base model to come out and buy one...hopefully adds some features like power passenger seat, bluetooth, and some better rims (not too happy with the current grey rims).
3. Wait for '08 model to arrive and work a deal on an '07 with Tech package.
Anyone have advice on what I should do or info/rumors on what the '08 will include or when it will be released?

Nobody here knows what the 08 will include. Honda/Acura tends to only add new features at the mid model upgrade, which would probably mean 09. I'd doubt too many new features (if any) for 08 beyond paint colors. The big question is whether this car will make it to 09. If sales don't pick up, Acura may cancel it at some point.

It's always best to wait as long as you can. The longer you wait, the better deal you'll get (for the current model yr).
If you can hold off 'till the '08s are released, then you can make a better decision to go with the '08 Base (if it has the features you like) or find an '07 Tech where there may be better deals but limited selection (ie: colour).
But then, I'm an impulse shopper so I realize that this all makes sense in theory but is difficult to apply.

Unless sales pick up dramatically, there should be plenty of 07 models to choose from when the 08 models come out. Just jump on it when the inceitives first hit, before all the other bargain hunters start buying.

wait till '08
we've decided to wait for the 2008 model. One reason is because I bought an '04 TSX and I regretted buying the first model year since there were some minor issues that Acura later worked out in 2005, plus they added some features such as XM radio, bluetooth, power driver's seat, etc. I admit I'm a little tempted to get one now since they can be bought close to invoice and that might not be the case later.

Personally I don't understand that logic, if I need a car now then I buy it. If I don't need it until next year then I don't look until I do. No car is going to have every feature, and there will always be something new on the horizon. If you just keep waiting then you miss out on having what you need. When I looked around I came to the conclusion that the RDX was a really good value. When you compare other vehicles similarly equipped it looks good. Another year driving my rough-ridin Subie? no thanks

Rdx
Yes, by the time you wait till 08 comes out and wait for year end clearance price. I will have driven my RDX for almost 1.5 yrs (I got mine in Sept ) . Another couple years, people will start talking about the complete redesign......
I guess really depends on whether you need it or not. For me, my trade in car was due for a major maintenance, so instead of wait and maybe save some on new, but pay $$$ for the old car's maintenance, I just traded in and enjoy my new ride - RDX

Couldn't/Wouldn't Wait
I didnt really need a new car, but fell in love with RDX after seeing it on highway. "What the hell is that?"
If you wait -- something else might get in way of purchase. To quote from a great movie -- Seize the Day. Don't wait.

Wait
I know some people really wait till the last year of the production to get the maximum discount. e.g. Get a CRV06 now or get a Acura EL last year, etc.
But by saving $2000-3000, they will suffer for next 5 years seeing others driving the new model. Anyway, different people have different preference.

Well, the thing is, you can already get the RDX at invoice, so you can have the new model and a substantial discount at the same time!

I'm going to pitch $500 over invoice, and hopefully settle at $750 over. If not, I'll head over to Toyota and pick up a V6 Rav.

I got the following unsolicited email last night from the local dealership:
2007 RDX w/Technology Package
MSRP: $37,165.00.
Your Price: $34,260.00
That would appear to be invoice + destination fee. As far as I can tell Acura's recent financing promo had no effect over the T-day holiday, so dealers are scrambling. So a new baseline has now been set.

Well, the promo has only been in effect for 3-4 business days, so give it some time. Personally, I am turning the screws on the local dealers. In my quest for a base RDX, we descended past invoice last Wednesday. It's now $1K under or bust for me! How low can they go??? I think it helps that I don't need the vehicle right away but some of the dealers seem to be short of their monthly quota. Let the feeding frenzy begin!!

creativeguy,
I was wondering where you are? I am looking for a RDX with Tech. I am in the northern virginia area, the lowest I have heard in this area in 34,700. What have you been telling the dealers to get such a quote. There is an Acura dealer near me that has like 80-90 RDX's on the lot. Thanks for any help in getting a lower price on my RDX.

I'm in Northern CA. I requested a quote from a few dealers a while back and now they spam me every few weeks with the latest deal. So I'm not telling them anything, and I'm guessing that I could sweeten the deal even more with some hard negotiating on site.

Keep in mind the invoice price does not reflect what's called dealer holdback...Acura and Honda (and every other auto mfr in varying amounts) give their dealers 3 percent of the msrp back on every vehicle they sell. So the true dealer cost is msrp minus that 3%.

EDIT: Sorry tried to edit the above post but it wouldn't let me; here is a more complete explantion:
http://www.fatwallet.com/forums/mess...hreadid=444610
Actual dealer cost on a Tech RDX would be invoice of $33,290 + $670 dest fee = 33,960; less 990 (3% of Tech base msrp of 32,995) = 32,970.
So $32,970 is the actual dealer cost excluding his insurance, light bill, etc.
This does not include any other spiffs or incentives the mfrs give dealers from time to time. Nor does it include bs fees some dealers charge customers as high as $250+ and labeled as "filing fees" which I think the dealers picked up from the mortgage companies. Just say no to that kind of crap, or if they insist, tell them they can charge it if they deduct it from somewhere else.
